97-year-old Sidney Cooke is at the center of two separate incidents as the oldest prisoner in England. This infamous pedophile, linked to child murders, was first accused of attacking another inmate and then himself was the victim of a violent assault.
Prison officials called the police to investigate allegations that Cooke threatened an inmate and threw an object at him. Cooke, when questioned, denied the accusations, and no action was taken regarding the incident due to insufficient evidence.
Shortly after this incident, Cooke was attacked, likely in connection with the initial dispute. Footage captured on camera shows an inmate beating Cooke with a metal drink bottle until he lost consciousness, and then repeatedly hitting him in the face after he fell to the ground. Cooke was saved by another inmate intervening and the intervention of prison staff.
Cooke's horrific past began with his involvement in the murder of 14-year-old Jason Swift in 1985. He was later reported to be connected to a pedophile gang known as the "Dirty Dozen" and may have been involved in up to 20 child murders. Cooke, who was imprisoned in 1989, has been serving two life sentences for child abuse since 1999.
This year, Cooke will be considered for parole for the 12th time, having last been denied release in 2023 due to posing a "very high level of risk to the public."
The Parole Board stated that their decisions are based solely on "the risk the prisoner may pose to society."
