Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that they are waiting for information from the United States regarding the proposal for a "30-day emergency ceasefire" to Ukraine, saying, "You are rushing a bit. We do not want to rush. We need to listen to the U.S. side before making any comments."
The Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov made evaluations regarding the U.S. proposal for a "30-day emergency ceasefire" to Ukraine and some other current issues in the capital Moscow.
Recalling that Russian President Vladimir Putin had stated that there could be cooperation with the U.S. regarding rare earth elements, Peskov said, "There are opportunities in this regard, but consultations have not yet been conducted."
WILL TRUMP MEET WITH PUTIN?
Speaking about a possible meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Putin, Peskov stated, "If such a need arises, it will be organized very quickly. The existing channels for communication with the U.S. make it possible to do this in a relatively short time."
"YOU ARE IN A BIT OF A HURRY"
Peskov responded to a question regarding the Russian side's approach to the U.S. proposal for a "30-day emergency ceasefire" by saying, "You are in a bit of a hurry. We do not want to rush. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said they would inform us about this. We need to listen to the U.S. side before making any comments."
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
After more than eight hours of talks with a Ukrainian delegation in Jeddah, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, "The ball is now in Russia's court," and expressed hope that "Russia will respond with a 'yes' as soon as possible."
WHAT DOES THE AGREEMENT INCLUDE?
Ukraine expressed that it is ready to accept the U.S. proposal to implement an immediately valid 30-day temporary ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a video address at night that the U.S. proposed a complete temporary ceasefire by halting missile, drone, and bomb attacks not only in the Black Sea but along the entire front line. Zelenskyy said, "Ukraine is ready to accept this proposal; we see it as a positive step and we are ready to take this step."
WHAT ELSE WAS AGREED UPON?
The United States announced that it would immediately lift the halt in intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine. Ukrainian officials stated in a statement made on Tuesday night that both aid and intelligence sharing had resumed. In a joint statement on Tuesday, the two countries announced that they had agreed to finalize a comprehensive agreement aimed at developing Ukraine's critical mineral resources as soon as possible.
The minerals agreement had been a topic of discussion for several weeks but had been thrown into uncertainty following a tense White House meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump (who has long been skeptical about aid to Ukraine) and Zelenskyy on February 28. Both sides emphasized the importance of humanitarian aid efforts as part of the peace process, particularly highlighting issues such as the exchange of prisoners of war, the release of civilian detainees, and the return of forcibly taken Ukrainian children during the ceasefire.
