On July 7-8, ahead of the NATO Summit, a large-scale operation was carried out in Ankara. In the operation conducted by gendarmerie and police in the capital, 209 individuals linked to terrorist organizations were detained.
As Ankara prepares for the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held on July 7-8, 2026, measures are being increased in the city to ensure security and public order.
MANY LEADERS WILL ATTEND THE SUMMIT
The summit is expected to be attended by many leaders, including US President Donald Trump, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
DAWN OPERATION CARRIED OUT
As a result of lengthy intelligence efforts by the Ankara Provincial Police Department and Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams, simultaneous dawn raids were conducted across the capital. Through these planned operations, a total of 209 suspects identified as having connections or links to various terrorist organizations were caught red-handed and taken into custody.
SECURITY MEASURES AT PEAK BEFORE SUMMIT
Due to the NATO Summit on July 7-8, security in Ankara is extremely tight. It has been reported that security forces will continue and increase their city-wide inspections, intelligence, and public order activities until the end of the summit to ensure this major event, which will see the participation of many international delegations and high-level officials, takes place smoothly and in a safe environment.
