In a statement by the Senegal Football Federation, it was announced that 45-year-old coach Pape Thiaw has been relieved of his duties. The federation stated that the decision was made following a "comprehensive evaluation of the national team's sporting results and future."

Senegal lost to France and Norway in Group I while defeating Iraq, advancing to the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams. They were then eliminated from the tournament after losing to Belgium in the Round of 32.
