A family returning from holiday in Istanbul's Avcılar district noticed that foreign currency and jewelry worth 5 million liras, which they had hidden under a bed base in their home in a 24-hour private security complex with 700 apartments, had been stolen. The homeowner, Y.A., said, 'They took my dollars, euros, and gold worth 4-5 million liras and fled. It was my savings of 8 years. I definitely think the theft was committed by someone from inside the building.'
A family returning from holiday in Avcılar discovered that foreign currency and jewelry worth 5 million liras, which they had hidden under a bed base in their home in a gated community, had been stolen. The homeowner believes the theft was committed by someone from inside the building.
ALL THEIR SAVINGS GONE
The incident occurred on August 7 at a housing complex in Tahtakale Neighborhood. According to the claim, Y.A., who had gone out of town with his family for the weekend, realized a theft had occurred when he returned home on the evening of August 9. A.G., who returned home before her family, panicked and called her friend upon seeing the apartment door ajar. A.G. entered the apartment with police officers who arrived at the scene and saw that the house had been ransacked. The inspection revealed that the family's 8 years of savings—foreign currency and jewelry worth approximately 5 million liras stored under the bed base—had been stolen.
"I PANICKED WHEN I SAW THE DOOR OPEN"
Describing what happened, Y.A.'s daughter A.G. said, "When I arrived, the door was ajar. My friend dropped me off. I immediately called her and told her to come back. I panicked when I saw the door open. When my friend arrived, we called the police. We went inside with the police. The house was in complete disarray, everything was scattered. There were jewelry items under the bed base, worth about 4-5 million liras, they took everything."
"IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR SOMEONE FROM OUTSIDE TO COME"
A.G.'s father Y.A., stating that the incident was a planned robbery, said, "When we returned on Sunday evening, we encountered such a scene. Whatever jewelry we had under the bed base, they took everything from us. The site management collects dues, but they don't justify the money we give them regarding security. It's impossible for a thief to come directly from outside to a building located right in the middle of a 700-unit complex on the 13th floor. No outsider could think of this. I definitely believe the theft was committed by someone from inside the building. I examined the camera recordings one by one, and a detail I suspected emerged."
"THERE ARE NO CAMERAS ON THE FIRE ESCAPE STAIRS"
Y.A. stated, "After 18:00 in the evening, plumbers or craftsmen cannot come from outside in the complex; this is against the rules. Even if they came, why wouldn't security accompany them? There are no cameras on any of the fire escape stairs; they can enter and exit freely from the intermediate floors. There was a power outage on Saturday; they probably checked whether we were home. There's great skill and operation here. They took my dollars, euros, and gold worth 4-5 million liras and fled. This was my 8 years of savings."
