During a search and rescue operation in a cave in the Pençe-Kilit Operation area, 12 soldiers were martyred due to exposure to methane gas. Six of them were honored in a ceremony held at Selahattin Eyyubi Airport in Yüksekova, Hakkari, before being sent back to their hometowns. A CEREMONY WAS HELD
After the autopsy procedures at Hakkari State Hospital, a ceremony was held at Selahattin Eyyubi Airport in Yüksekova, Hakkari for the martyred Intelligence Lieutenant Ege Akar, Ammunition Master Sergeant Abdurrahman Akdoğan, and contracted infantry soldiers Ahmet Gültekin, Özkan Özkanlı, Mahsun Yeşildemir, and Ahmet Kuşak.
MINISTER GÜLER ATTENDED THE CEREMONY
The coffins of the martyrs, wrapped in the Turkish flag, were brought to Selahattin Eyyubi Airport in Yüksekova, Hakkari. The ceremony was attended by Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak, Commander of the Naval Forces Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, Commander of the Land Forces General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Commander of the Air Forces General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, Hakkari Governor Ali Çelik, Provincial Police Chief İdris Yılmaz, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Necip Çarıkcıoğlu, Yüksekova District Governor Mustafa Akın, AK Party Hakkari Provincial Chairman Zeydin Kaya, district mayors, and department heads.
THEY WERE SENT OFF TO THEIR HOMETOWNS WITH PRAYERS
After a one-minute moment of silence, the biographies of the martyrs were read. Following the prayers, the coffins of the martyrs, wrapped in the Turkish flag, were placed on the shoulders of their comrades and sent off to their hometowns for their final journey.
