In the fight that continued in front of the mosque, 61-year-old Osman Ş. stabbed 55-year-old Yavuz Özgül. Özgül, who was taken to the hospital seriously injured, could not be saved despite all interventions. Osman Ş. was caught by police teams 25 meters ahead of the scene, and the knife used in the attack was also seized. It was learned that the suspect said in his statement, "When he put his hand to his waist, I thought he would stab me. I swung the knife I found on the bench."
STABBED IN 3 PLACES IN FRONT OF THE MOSQUE
The incident occurred around 15:15 in the Paşabahçe neighborhood. According to the information obtained, a fight broke out between Yavuz Özgül and Osman Ş. in the park. After the argument, the two met in front of the mosque, and Osman Ş. stabbed Özgül in 3 places: the neck, chest, and armpit. Upon the reports of those around, police and health teams were dispatched to the scene. Özgül, who was unconscious, was taken to Paşabahçe State Hospital by health teams. Yavuz Özgül lost his life despite all interventions at the hospital.
CAUGHT BEFORE HE COULD ESCAPE
After the incident, police teams who launched an investigation caught the suspect Osman Ş. about 25 meters ahead of the mosque. The knife used in the attack was also seized at the scene.
HE HAD FOUND THE KNIFE ON A BENCH
In his statement at the police station, the suspect Osman Ş. said, "I am a diabetes patient. I have no friendship or feud with Yavuz Özgül. While I was sitting in Paşabahçe Park, Yavuz Özgül made remarks to me and my friend next to me. A verbal argument broke out between us. To prevent the situation from escalating, I left the park and came to the front of the mosque. Yavuz Özgül walked around shops looking for a knife, then came to me. When he put his hand to his waist, I thought he would stab me. I swung the knife I found on the bench. I don't remember what happened after that."

In the police teams' examination of the security cameras in the area, it was determined that Osman Ş. pulled out an object considered to be a knife from his right back pocket when he came face to face with Yavuz Özgül. The examination revealed that Osman Ş. first stabbed Özgül in the chest, then in the neck; when Özgül fell to the ground, he threw the knife, and the knife stuck into Özgül's right armpit.
It was learned that Yavuz Özgül had a record for 'Other accidents' and 'Purchasing, accepting, possessing, and using drugs or stimulants for use,' while Osman Ş. had no criminal record. It was learned that the suspect would be referred to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station.
