Atilla Özer: I Helped Without Hesitation

"I HELPED WITHOUT HESITATION"

Atilla Özer, stating that he went outside and intervened in the attack as soon as he heard the screams for help, said, "While we were sitting and eating at the facility, a child running inside from outside said that her mother was being attacked by a dog outside. When I looked outside, I saw a woman being attacked by a dog. I ran outside without thinking. Nothing was on my mind at that moment; my only thought was to save the woman. I tried to drive the dog away and prevent it from injuring the woman using chairs I grabbed and kicking. However, the dog was quite aggressive and continued its attack the more we intervened. Despite all my efforts and those of another person, it had bitten the woman's arm and leg. While continuing to hit the dog, we managed to get the woman inside. Her condition was serious, and she had a deep wound on her arm. We called 112 Emergency Call Center for help, but the dog did not allow the arriving medical personnel to approach the facility. With the support of citizens who came to help, once we managed to restrain the dog, the health teams intervened with the injured woman. If we hadn't been there that day, the woman might not be with us today," he said.
