An agreement has been reached between BOTAŞ and Türkmengaz regarding the supply of Turkmen gas to Turkey. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated, "Under the agreement, the flow of natural gas is planned to begin on March 1." The cooperation talks between Turkey and Turkmenistan first started in 1998.
President Erdoğan had a meeting with the Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, who came to Turkey to attend the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on March 1, 2024. During the meeting, agreements were signed to increase cooperation between the two countries in natural gas and petroleum, and a declaration of intent was made regarding the transportation of Turkmenistan's rich natural gas resources to Turkey and from Turkey to the west.
HAD VISITED TURKMENISTAN FOR CONTACTS
Last July, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar visited Turkmenistan for contacts and emphasized that there was a serious will at the level of heads of state, stating, "Inshallah, we will turn this into reality, and frankly, we will have put into practice the discussions and agreements that have been ongoing since 1998."
NATURAL GAS FLOW WILL START ON MARCH 1
Following these developments, intensive efforts were made to establish the necessary technical and legal infrastructure for the commencement of gas flow from Turkmenistan to Turkey. As a result, an important agreement was reached between BOTAŞ and Türkmengaz that will initiate a new era in energy cooperation. Under the agreement, the natural gas flow is planned to start on March 1.

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated in a post on his X social media account that a historic step has been taken in energy cooperation between Turkey and Turkmenistan. He expressed that the concrete outcome of the memorandum of understanding signed in Antalya in March last year, with the participation of President Erdoğan and Berdymukhamedov, has been reached today, stating, "Under the agreement, the gas flow is planned to start on March 1, 2025. With this agreement, which we have been working on for many years, we will strengthen the natural gas supply security of our country and our region while taking the strategic cooperation between the two countries further."
