Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the American company Continental Resources has estimated a reserve of 6.1 billion barrels of oil in Diyarbakır. Emphasizing that if this reserve identification in the Diyarbakır basin is confirmed, it would reveal enough oil to last Turkey for more than 15 years, Minister Bayraktar said, "This is an incredible thing."

Turkey is hopeful about the agreement made with American shale oil investor Continental Resources and Texas-based TransAtlantic Petroleum for the identification and extraction of oil and natural gas resources in the Diyarbakır basin. Sharing the details of the joint venture agreement made with these companies, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the Americans have estimated a reserve of 6.1 billion barrels in the Diyarbakır region.

According to the information provided by Bayraktar, who answered questions after the ceremony held in Gabar a few days ago, Turkey's annual oil imports amount to 365 million barrels. If this reserve identification in the Diyarbakır basin is confirmed, it will yield enough oil for Turkey for more than 15 years.

Pointing to a news article published in the Financial Times on March 13, the day the agreement was signed, Bayraktar said, "There, a reserve amount was mentioned to us in reference to Diyarbakır. That is actually a bit of the Americans' own reserve estimates. We are not yet calling this a discovery. But they estimate that there is a reserve of 6.1 billion barrels in the Diyarbakır region. This is an incredible thing."
