The appeal against the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and his press advisor Murat Ongun has been rejected.
The Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, was detained on the morning of March 19, Wednesday, as part of "corruption" and "terror" investigations, and was arrested by the magistrate court to which he was referred on Sunday, March 23, upon the prosecutor's request for arrest, and sent to Silivri Prison.
REJECTION OF THE OBJECTION PETITION
Following this development, İmamoğlu's lawyers Fikret İlkiz, Mehmet Pehlivan, Tora Pekin, and Hasan Fehmi Demir submitted an objection petition to the Istanbul 10th Magistrate Court. The court that examined the petition rejected the objection and decided to continue the detention of İmamoğlu and Ongun.
WHAT DID THE OBJECTION PETITION SAY?
In the objection petition, İmamoğlu's lawyers stated, "We request the release of Ekrem İmamoğlu, whose detention was decided as a result of an investigation conducted with legally prohibited procedures, which dozens of millions of our citizens reacted to, and if insistence on the unlawful detention continues, we request that the file be sent to the competent and authorized Criminal Court for review."
