Hülya Çevik, the head of the School Parents' Association at Ayser Çalık Middle School, where 9 people were killed in an armed attack in Kahramanmaraş, stated that the assistant principal Alparslan Yıldırım, who was transferred to another school one month ago, knew the attacker student İsa Aras Mersinli very well. Çevik said, "He was someone who could stab his palm with a pen, cut his own throat, and have aggressive behaviors. This child was already under the supervision of our teacher Alparslan, and he would say, 'Don't be afraid. I don't let that child in without searching his bag.'"
In Kahramanmaraş, in the armed attack organized yesterday at Ayser Çalık Middle School, nine people, eight of whom were students and one a teacher, lost their lives. The 14-year-old attacker, student İsa Aras Mersinli, also lost his life after the incident.
"THIS CHILD WAS SOMEONE WHO CUT HIS OWN THROAT"
Members of the Libertarian Education Union and parents went to Ayser Çalık Middle School, where the attack took place, and left carnations. Later, İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez came to the school with his delegation and met with the parents. During this time, School Parents' Association President Hülya Çevik stated that İsa Aras Mersinli was a troubled child and that this was known by the vice principal Alparslan Yıldırım, whose transfer had been issued a while ago.
Çevik said, "This child was someone who stabbed his palm with a pen, cut his hand with a file, cut his own throat, and could have aggressive behaviors. This child was already under the supervision of our teacher Alparslan, and he would say, 'Don't be afraid. I don't let that child in without searching his bag.'"
'HE HAD CUT HIMSELF WITH A RAZOR BLADE A MONTH AGO'
Another parent, who did not want to disclose their name, while giving information about the attacker to Turhan Çömez, said the following: "A month ago, the child went to the maternity hospital after cutting himself with a razor blade. They were going to record it as a forensic case there, but because his father is a police officer, they didn't register it in his record. A friend's spouse, who is a doctor, told me this. The children were lying on the ground, we thought we couldn't find the boy inside, my spouse checked all the classrooms. He says, 'There's no one in the school.' I looked at the children's shoes, wondering which ones were my child's shoes. I'm looking, he's not there. 20 minutes later, my phone rang, my son had hidden in the garden.
"THEY WERE ALL SHOT IN THE HEAD"
They were in physical education class in the garden. The teacher, upon hearing the gunshot, said, 'Run.' When I arrived, there were 2 police cars and 1 ambulance. As soon as I arrived, I entered the school directly. I went in to search for my child, I didn't know the incident was this large in scale. When I went inside, it was a disaster. It's indescribable. When I arrived, the teacher lady had died. The children were all shot in the head."
ÇÖMEZ: WHY WAS THE MANAGEMENT, WHO KNEW ALL THE DETAILS ABOUT THE CHILD, REMOVED FROM DUTY
Later, making a statement, Turhan Çömez stated that before coming to the school, he stopped by the hospital and visited the injured students. Expressing that there is a question awaiting an answer regarding the incident, Çömez said the following: "There are issues we need to question. Our main reason for being here is so that such incidents do not happen again. If there are responsible parties, let them be revealed. We came to demand accountability on behalf of the nation. How does a 14-year-old child access a gun?
How does he attain the capacity to change 5 guns and 7 magazines? This child should have a pen in his hand. How can such a monster, a murderer, emerge from a 14-year-old child? How did he access the guns? We are after this. How could this child shoot at a shooting range we learned belongs to the police department? How is a gun given into the hands of a 14-year-old child? It was discussed and shared that this child had some psychological problems. It was shared by his family. The school administration also warned the family. They showed sensitivity, saying, 'Take precautions, do what is necessary.' What was necessary was not done. The school was stormed in an extremely professional manner, tiny children and a teacher who threw herself over them to protect them were massacred.
Why were the administrators, principal, vice principals, and teachers of this school removed from duty a month ago? I will ask this to the families. Why was the management, who knew the school for years, had no complaints against them, knew all the details, and knew all the details of the child who committed this massacre, removed from duty? The former administration, because they knew the child's condition, warned the relevant places and the families. This child was a child who spent a long time in front of a game console. He had problems at school. With an extremely justified and appropriate practice, this child's person and bag were searched every day upon entry to the school, by the administration. What happened, the former administration was removed from duty and then this massacre was carried out?"
