New details have emerged about the young man who died after being attacked by a tiger at a wildlife park in the Yorkshire region of England. It was learned that a mother visiting the park with her two children tried to stop the man at the last moment as he prepared to jump into the area where the tigers were kept. However, it was claimed that despite the woman's intervention, the young man climbed over the safety barrier and jumped into the section where the tiger was.
HE TRIED TO SAVE HIM IN FRONT OF HIS TWO CHILDREN
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 10, at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near the city of Doncaster in England. A man, whose identity has not yet been released and who is said to be in his 20s, tried to climb over the safety barrier on the platform where visitors view the tigers.
According to new information reported by The Sun based on The Telegraph, a mother who was at the park with her two children at the time tried to pull the young man back and prevent him from entering the area where the tigers were kept. However, the man broke free from the woman's intervention and jumped down.
"I TRIED TO PULL HIM BACK"
Anthony Hunt, one of the witnesses to the incident, described the fear the woman experienced. Hunt stated that the young man overpowered the woman who was trying to stop him, and said, "He got past the woman and jumped down. The woman looked really terrified."
Hunt, who said they spoke with the mother after the incident, relayed that the woman told them she tried to pull the man back. Hunt stated that the woman may not have wanted to put her own life in danger as well.
HE HAD HIS PHOTO TAKEN WITH THE TIGER BEFORE HE DIED
New information was also shared regarding the young man's behavior just before the attack. Eyewitness Del Taylor recounted that the man asked him to take a photo of him with the tiger.
According to Taylor, the young man had several photos taken in which Altai, a five-year-old Siberian tiger, appeared in the background.
The man, who was said to be quite cheerful while the photos were being taken, reportedly asked for more photos to be taken and then thanked Taylor. Shortly afterward, he climbed over the safety barrier and entered the area where the tiger was.
THE TIGER ATTACKED, STAFF FIRED WARNING SHOTS INTO THE AIR
After the young man entered the area, the tiger named Altai attacked. Park staff fired two warning shots into the air to drive the animal away. After it retreated into the section where the tiger was kept, the animal was safely brought under control. After a report was made at around 13:35, police, an ambulance and an air ambulance were dispatched to the scene. However, despite the intervention of medical teams, the young man died at the scene. It has not yet been determined why the man entered the area where the tigers were kept.
IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT THE TIGER WILL NOT BE KILLED
It was announced that Yorkshire Wildlife Park, which was evacuated after the incident, would remain closed on Monday, October 12 as well. Park management announced that the tiger named Altai, which carried out the attack, was in good health and would not be put down because of the incident.
South Yorkshire Police stated that the investigation into the young man's death is ongoing and asked that footage of the moments of the attack not be shared.
