Tensions in the Middle East and the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz have driven up oil prices. As the oil crisis continues to escalate, a price increase of 5.73 lira for diesel is expected on Friday. After this increase, the price of diesel will approach 75 lira.

The escalating tension between the USA, Israel, and Iran is shaking energy markets, while the rise in global oil prices is reflected in fuel prices in Turkey. According to industry sources, a significant increase in diesel prices is expected.

THE OIL CRISIS IS GROWING

The crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and the conflicts in the region have affected a significant portion of the world's oil supply. The disruption in the strait, through which approximately 30% of global oil trade passes, has interrupted the supply chain and pushed prices up. Attacks on oil processing facilities have also accelerated this increase.

The rise in oil prices has created a broad cost pressure affecting not only fuel but also many products ranging from food to plastic. This situation has emerged as a new risk factor for global inflation.

HISTORIC INCREASE IN DIESEL

An increase of 5.73 lira in diesel prices is expected. Although the increase has not yet been finalized, it is anticipated to reflect in pump prices starting from Friday.

After the expected increase, the price of diesel per liter is expected to rise to 71.64 lira in Istanbul, 72.76 lira in Ankara, 73.04 lira in Izmir, and up to 74.44 lira in the eastern provinces.

THE EŞEL MOBIL SYSTEM IS OUT OF ORDER

The eşel mobil system, implemented to limit increases in fuel prices, aimed to balance the increases with discounts on special consumption tax (ÖTV). However, with the zeroing of the tax margin on diesel, the system has become inoperative.

This development means that future price increases will be directly reflected to the consumer. The Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Şimşek, also pointed out the burden of the system on the budget, stating that it is not sustainable in the long term.
