THE MOBILE PHONE SUDDENLY EXPLODED AND CAUGHT FIRE
While Akyıldız was eating, the phone suddenly exploded and caught fire, falling to the ground. Akyıldız, who jumped up from his seat, began to extinguish the burning phone under the table and the shoes that had caught fire after being knocked over. Thanks to the metal electric heater located between Akyıldız and the spot where the phone fell after exploding, he managed to escape without injury.
"I HAD A FEELING 'THE PHONE WILL EXPLODE'
Describing the moments of panic he experienced, Gökhan Akyıldız stated that he placed the phone in the compartment under his table thinking about the possibility of it exploding, saying, "A customer came in, the battery of his phone was at the end stage, it was swollen. The back cover had become U-shaped. He had come in before with a different complaint. We took the phone, placed it on the counter, and just as we were about to fix it, I ordered food. I thought I would do it comfortably after the meal, but I also had a feeling inside me. I thought, 'This phone will explode.' I started eating, and just as I was eating, my feeling came true, the phone exploded. I had two pairs of shoes where it fell, and they burned too. Thank God we weren't harmed," he said.
"MY BRAIN TOLD ME 'PUT IT THERE'
Noting that the electric heater prevented the phone from burning him as it fell right behind it, Akyıldız said, "What saved us there was our electric heater. If that electric heater hadn't been there, it would have completely burned me from my knees up to my face. The electric heater is made of iron, and the battery exploded and fell behind it. It also prevents the lava formed there from coming towards me. The previous explosion was a lesson for us. Probably, in a subliminal way, my brain said, 'Put it there, keep yourself safe.' That's what we did," he expressed.
USING THE PHONE WHILE CHARGING SWELLS THE BATTERY
Pointing out that the swelling of phone batteries is generally caused by using the phones while they are charging, Akyıldız warned citizens, saying, "The swelling of the phone battery is usually due to user error. Normally, batteries of phones that have reached 2 years should be replaced. There are also important points to consider during this process. If there are small swellings, distortions on the back of the phone, or issues like screen lifting, it is definitely beneficial to bring it to the nearest service center for inspection. Explosions do not always happen this way, of course, but it is always good to take precautions. We definitely do not recommend using phones or other devices, whether it's a laptop, phone, or tablet, while they are charging. This time, what happens is that it puts a load on the battery because it is consuming double the performance. This is the biggest factor for swelling. Do not use while charging, do not play games, make calls, or use social media while charging. These should definitely not be done. We will unplug the cable, use it, and then put it back on charge. When it reaches 100%, take it and use it. The standard is that you should not touch the phone you put on charge at all. You will leave it until it reaches 100%, and after it reaches 100%, you can take it and use it again," he said.
