In the Avanos district of Nevşehir, 9-year-old Eylül Sözeri, a 3rd-grade student at Kalaba Yunus Emre Primary School, lost her life after a piece of cake she was eating during lunch break got stuck in her throat.
9-year-old Eylül Sözeri, a 3rd-grade student at Kalaba Yunus Emre Primary School in the Avanos district, fainted after a piece of cake she ate during lunch got stuck in her throat. Her friends, noticing the situation, alerted the teachers who intervened. The teachers attempted to save the young student using the Heimlich maneuver and first aid techniques. The health teams called to the scene also provided initial assistance.
DESPITE ALL INTERVENTIONS, SHE COULD NOT BE SAVED
Eylül Sözeri, whose condition was critical, was transferred to Kayseri City Hospital by ambulance. However, despite all the efforts of the doctors, she could not be saved.
Eylül Sözeri's brother-in-law, Erol Karayılan, stated, "Eylül choked on the cake she ate during lunch at school. Her teachers provided the first intervention when she fainted there. Later, health teams intervened and took her to Kayseri City Hospital. Despite all the interventions made here, Eylül could not be saved," he said.
SHE WAS FAREWELLED IN TEARS
A funeral prayer was held for little Eylül at Kalaba Central Mosque. The funeral prayer, led by Avanos District Mufti Şükrü Safa, was attended by her family and relatives, as well as Avanos District Governor Osman Bilici, Nevşehir Provincial Director of National Education Yusuf Yazıcı, her teachers, friends, and many citizens.
