TERRIFYING TRUTH REVEALED AT THE HOSPITAL
A child who had been experiencing ear pain for a long time in Eskişehir was taken to a private hospital by his family. During the examination there, a live tick was detected in the child's right ear, attached to the skin in the outer ear canal and causing bleeding. The tick was removed in an operation performed at the hospital by Op. Dr. Faruk Özkırış. The child, reported to be in good health, was discharged.
BE CAREFUL IN PICNIC AREAS
Stating that ticks can especially attach to children's bodies in picnic areas, Op. Dr. Faruk Özkırış said, "When we evaluated the pediatric patient who had been complaining of ear pain for about a month, a foreign object, an insect, was observed in his right ear. When we removed this object, we saw that it was a tick. We immediately took the necessary action and removed the tick. We arranged his treatment and took him under our follow-up. Especially in summer months, when people go to picnic areas and children play in grassy areas, ticks can attach to children's bodies. They can enter the ear canal. Therefore, it would be appropriate not to neglect children with such ear pain and to take them to the nearest healthcare facility."
