In Nevşehir, a 14-year-old murder suspect was sentenced to 14 years in prison in connection with a knife fight that erupted over a 'girl issue' and resulted in the death of a child. Meanwhile, security camera footage of the incident has also emerged.
A blood-curdling incident occurred in front of Mehmet Gülen Secondary School in Emek Neighborhood, Nevşehir, last September.
ARGUMENT OVER GIRLFRIEND ISSUE ENDS IN MURDER
According to allegations, an argument broke out between F.A. (15) and M.M.K. (14) over a girlfriend issue. As the argument escalated, M.M.K. stabbed F.A. in the chest with a knife he was carrying. Following the report, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Severely injured F.A., despite all interventions at the hospital where he was taken after initial first aid, could not be saved and lost his life.
"I WENT BLIND" DEFENSE
Following the incident, the suspect M.M.K. was apprehended together with the murder weapon and taken into custody. In the prosecutor's statement that emerged during the investigation process, the defendant M.M.K. admitted to carrying a knife in case of a fight but claimed he used it for self-defense.
It was learned that M.M.K. said in his statement, "I took out the knife to defend myself. I don't remember how many times I struck, maybe 4-5 times. I went blind, I don't remember where I struck." It was also learned that the defendant, who stated he went home after the incident, threw the knife into a trash container and then surrendered to the police, saying 'I am sorry.'
MURDER SUSPECT SENTENCED TO HIS AGE IN YEARS
The court sentenced the 14-year-old suspect to 14 years in prison.
Following the court's decision, the relatives of the deceased child made a statement outside the courthouse. The family claimed that the incident occurred as a result of peer bullying and reacted to the given sentence. The statement included: "Our brother was killed due to peer bullying. The killer is a 14-year-old child and received a 14-year sentence. Justice definitely was not served. This was not the sentence we wanted. We say no to peer bullying. Our brother is gone, may no other family suffer."
