In Ümraniye, a driver was fined 20,000 TL for using the emergency lane due to road work, sparking backlash, while a citizen objected by pointing to a banner indicating that it was allowed.
A traffic fine issued to a driver in Istanbul's Umraniye district sparked controversy. According to claims, while the use of the emergency lane was permitted due to road works, a driver who used this lane was fined 20,000 TL.
The incident occurred in an area of Umraniye where road work was ongoing. The driver, thinking the emergency lane was open for use because of the construction zone, proceeded along this lane. However, police officers recorded the vehicle's license plate and sent a fine to the driver.
SHOWED THE BANNER IN PROTEST
Reacting to the 20,000 TL fine, the citizen went to the scene and displayed a banner hung on the tunnel reading, 'You can use the emergency lane throughout the work area.' The situation sparked debates on social media and in public opinion about the 'contradiction between authorization and penalty application.'
