"ISRAEL IS CLEARLY TAKING SIDES"
According to a report in the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, it was noted that Israel wants Syria to remain "weak" and prefers Russia over Turkey, which is a "dominant power in the region." The report stated, "Israel is actually clearly taking sides; it prefers the Russians over the Turks and is actually trying to remove Ankara from Syria."
"WANTS TO PREVENT TURKEY FROM ESTABLISHING MILITARY BASES"
According to the report, Israel is taking steps to prevent the establishment of Turkish military bases in Syria, the training of the Syrian army, and the protection of the country's airspace.
On February 28, the Reuters news agency claimed that "Israel has been lobbying within the U.S. administration to ensure that there are Russian bases in Syria instead of Turkish ones."
With the fall of Assad, Ankara has also increased its influence in Damascus. It is expected that Turkey will cooperate in the future regarding the establishment of military bases in Syria, the training of the restructured army, and the securing of airspace.
