In front of the plaza where the Israeli Consulate is located in Beşiktaş, one suspect was killed and two suspects were neutralized with injuries during the conflict. Two police officers were lightly injured in the incident, and three more suspects, believed to be connected to the event, were detained. An investigation was conducted on two vehicles that the attackers arrived in.
Three terrorists who carried out an armed attack on the police point in front of Yapı Kredi Plaza in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, were neutralized.
The incident occurred around 12:00 in front of the plaza, which also houses the Israeli Consulate, where three assailants armed with long-barreled weapons attacked police officers who were taking security measures. A clash broke out when police teams responded. During the clash, one of the assailants was killed, while two others were neutralized with injuries. Two police officers were also lightly injured.
5 SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY
During the attack, one assailant was killed while two injured suspects were taken to the hospital. It was learned that the interrogations of the assailants, who were under treatment in the hospital, were ongoing. Additionally, three individuals deemed to be connected to the incident were detained in a nearby area. Thus, the number of suspects in custody rose to five.
THEY CAME FROM IZMIT
It was learned that the assailants came from Kocaeli Izmit and that three suspects, who fled to a construction site in the area after the incident, used a light commercial vehicle. The vehicle was thoroughly examined by the crime scene investigation teams. After the examinations, the vehicles were taken to the police parking lot by a tow truck.
KILLED TERRORIST CONNECTED TO A RELIGIOUSLY EXPLOITATIVE ORGANIZATION
The Ministry of Interior announced that the terrorist who was found dead was identified as Yunus E.S., while the other two terrorists, who are brothers, were identified as Onur Ç. and Enes Ç. The statement included the following remarks:
"As a result of the armed attack carried out against our riot police stationed in front of the Yapı Kredi Plaza Blocks in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, three terrorists have been neutralized. Two of our heroic police officers, who immediately responded to the attack, were lightly injured, one in the leg and one in the ear; they are not in life-threatening condition. Following the investigation, the identities of the terrorists who carried out the attack were determined, and it was established that they rented a vehicle from Izmit to come to Istanbul. It has been found that Yunus E.S., who was found dead, had connections with a terrorist organization that exploits religion, and the other two terrorists, Onur Ç. and Enes Ç., who were captured injured, are brothers, with Onur Ç. having a drug record. Intense digital communication has been detected among the three neutralized terrorists, and the interrogation of the injured terrorists is ongoing."
AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN INITIATED
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that an investigation has been initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the gunfire heard around the Israeli Consulate in Beşiktaş, Istanbul.
Minister Gürlek stated the following in his announcement:
"An immediate investigation has been initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the reports of gunfire that occurred around the Israeli Consulate located in Beşiktaş, Istanbul. A deputy chief prosecutor and two public prosecutors have been assigned to the investigation, and our public prosecutors have promptly arrived at the scene to begin their examinations. In order to clarify all aspects of the incident, work is being carried out in coordination with the relevant law enforcement units, and the investigation is being conducted meticulously and comprehensively."
