A courier who took out a portrait of the founder of the Republic of Turkey, the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, in the elevator of a site in Ümraniye, spat on it, and then tore it, was taken into custody. The 28-year-old suspect was referred to the courthouse for the crime of "publicly insulting Atatürk."

The Istanbul Police Department teams initiated an investigation regarding a courier who, on December 10, removed and spat on a portrait of Atatürk hanging in the elevator of a site in the Çamlık neighborhood of Ümraniye.

COURIER DETAINED

By examining security cameras, the suspect G.K. (28), whose workplace was identified, was detained in Atakent. After the procedures at the police station, the suspect was referred to the courthouse for the crime of "publicly insulting Atatürk." Meanwhile, the incident was also recorded by security cameras.
