The President of the Turkish Football Federation, İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, had stated that the foreign player rule would change in the upcoming season and that certain criteria would be introduced. These criteria have now been revealed. Super League teams will be able to transfer an unlimited number of foreign players, but they will operate based on age and national team criteria in these transfers.
The President of the Turkish Football Federation, İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, stated regarding the foreign player rule, "The foreign player limit will be lifted next season, and criteria will be introduced." Federation officials have largely clarified these criteria.
UNLIMITED FOREIGN PLAYER TRANSFERS WILL BE ALLOWED
According to a report by Özgür Sancar from Radyospor; Super League clubs will be able to sign as many foreign players as they want in the 2025-26 season; however, the foreign transfers will be subject to age and national team criteria.
AGE LIMIT AND NATIONAL TEAM CONDITION ARE COMING
The age limit is planned to be 24. A maximum of 3 transfers can be made for players over the age of 24. These players can be transferred if they have played 75% of the matches in their national teams during a full season. With these criteria, the TFF aims to rid the Super League of the surplus of inactive foreign players. It aims to bring in young or qualified foreigners.
FOREIGN PLAYER TRANSFER IS BEING LIFTED IN THE 1ST LEAGUE
While it was decided to increase the infrastructure funds, a much more radical decision was made for the TFF 1st League. Next season, foreign player transfers will not be allowed in the 1st League. Except for foreigners with ongoing contracts, no foreign players will be allowed to play. In this way, the 1st League will be transformed into a competition group consisting entirely of domestic players.
BLUE CARD APPLICATION IS ENDING
The Blue Card application in the Super League is also changing. Accordingly, Turkish players coming from Turkish states or those who have worn the jerseys of other national teams will be able to play in Turkey under foreign status. However, players with ongoing contracts, such as Kerem Demirbay and Bakhtiyor Zaynutdinov, will benefit from the Blue Card application until their contracts expire.
