Following US President Trump's announcement of a deal with Iran and Brent crude oil dropping to $87, a massive discount for diesel is on the horizon. Starting Monday midnight, there will be a discount of 4 lira 88 kurus on diesel, but due to the Equalization Mobile System, only 1 lira 22 kurus of that will be reflected at the pump.
The global crisis triggered by tensions between the USA and Iran continues to deeply shake not only the Middle Eastern region but also the economies of the entire world. Particularly, with the closure of the critically important Strait of Hormuz to shipping, soaring oil prices have led to severe energy crises and successive waves of price hikes in many countries. In Turkey, amid this global deadlock that has caused fuel prices to reach record levels, the first positive development that will finally delight vehicle owners has occurred.
BRENT OIL DROPS BELOW 90 DOLLARS
Behind this sudden relief in the markets lies a surprise announcement by US President Donald Trump. While military conflicts between the two countries had briefly reignited, Trump unexpectedly announced the cancellation of planned new attacks on Iran. Stating that the parties have agreed on a peace treaty, the US President also heralded that the official signing ceremony will take place very soon. This signal of diplomatic easing immediately reflected in the international oil market. With the expectation that the supply risk in the Strait of Hormuz would diminish, the price of Brent crude oil experienced a sharp drop, falling below the 90-dollar threshold for the first time in a long while to 87 dollars.
DISCOUNT ON DIESEL ON THE HORIZON
This rapid decline in Brent oil has brought a mandatory discount in fuel prices in Turkey as well. According to information obtained from industry sources, a significant price reduction has been calculated for the diesel group. Effective from Tuesday (Monday midnight), a massive discount of 4 lira 88 kuruş per liter of diesel has occurred under normal circumstances.
1 LIRA 22 KURUŞ PORTION TO BE REFLECTED
However, due to the rules of the Equalization Mobile System applied by the state to maintain tax balance, this entire discount will not be directly passed on to the consumer. A portion of the resulting discount amount will be counted towards the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) base, while the remaining net part of 1 lira 22 kuruş will be directly reflected as a discount at the pump prices. Despite the drop in oil prices, no price change is expected for the gasoline group for now.
