The toll is worsening in the Ebola outbreak that is escalating its impact in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the number of deaths in the outbreak has risen to 2,786, while the number of confirmed cases has increased to 5,794.
The World Health Organization (WHO) shared its latest situation report on the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the public. The report stated that the geographical spread of the virus has accelerated and that the outbreak has affected a total of 60 health zones across 6 provinces in the country. Officials noted that the outbreak has shown a significant increase in both the number of cases and the areas of spread, particularly over the last three months.
"INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY" STATUS CONTINUES
In the WHO report, it was stated that as of August 26, the total number of confirmed cases had reached 5,794, including 2,786 deaths recorded. It was emphasized that, following the recommendations of the WHO Emergency Committee, which convened on August 18 due to the alarming rise in cases, the outbreak would continue to be assessed as a "Public Health Emergency of International Concern."
