The trial of Necmettin Ulaş, accused of chasing 12-year-old Eyüp Can Güner who died after falling from a height in a business center in Mersin Anamur, has continued. The defendant stated his intention was to play a game.
DIED AFTER FALLING FROM BUSINESS CENTER
The incident occurred on the evening of July 28 in the Saray neighborhood of the district. Citizens who saw restaurant worker Eyüp Can Güner lying motionless after falling from a height inside the business center reported to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Following the report, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The teams determined that Güner had died. After the autopsy, Eyüp Can Güner's body was handed over to his family and buried.
As part of the investigation, police took statements from witnesses and determined that Necmettin Ulaş (25), who worked in the business center, was chasing Güner as a joke when the incident occurred. Ulaş was taken into custody on the prosecutor's orders and was arrested by the court on charges of negligence in the incident.
With the indictment prepared by the Anamur Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a case was filed against Necmettin Ulaş seeking up to 25 years in prison for 'intentional homicide by negligent act'.
SECOND HEARING HELD
The second hearing of the case was held at the Anamur Heavy Penal Court. Detained defendant Necmettin Ulaş participated via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBIS) from the prison where he is held, while Eyüp Can's relatives and lawyers for the parties were present.
"I DID NOT HARM THE CHILD IN ANY WAY"
Speaking at the hearing, detained defendant Ulaş said, "I had no malicious intent in this incident. My purpose was to play a game with him. Since the other person was a child, I consider this situation normal. I did not harm the child in any way."
"WE REQUEST AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE CAUSE OF THE TEARS IN THE CLOTHING"
The family's lawyer, Gurbet Bilbay, who attended the hearing, stated, "We do not accept the statements made against us by the defendant's counsel. The tears in the victim's clothing have not been clarified by the reports taken. The injuries on the victim's body are of a nature that can be understood as stab wounds without any medical knowledge. We cannot understand why the expert report came out otherwise. For these reasons, we request an investigation into the cause of the tears in the aforementioned clothing."
The court, after also hearing the lawyers and Güner's relatives, adjourned the hearing to address deficiencies and hear other witnesses. It was decided to continue the defendant's detention.
