Alican Kızılay, who was arrested on the charge of causing the death of his pregnant wife Beste Kızılay by shooting her in the head, appeared before a judge for the first time. In the hearing, Kızılay claimed that the incident occurred "accidentally," arguing that the gun fired uncontrollably while he was trying to clean it.

Alican Kızılay (25), who shot and killed his wife Beste Kızılay (22) just 10 days before she was due to give birth, appeared before a judge for the first time.

Kızılay stated in his defense that the gun went off accidentally. "I went out to the balcony and sat at the table. My wife Beste was sitting across from me. I wanted to clean my gun, which I had fired twice in the village. After removing the magazine, I pulled the trigger while the barrel was pointing up. The gun did not fire. Suddenly, it went off while I was lowering the gun," he said.

THE BABY COULD NOT BE SAVED EITHER

The incident occurred on the night of April 10 in the Bahçelievler neighborhood. A dispute broke out between Alican Kızılay, who came home drunk, and his 8-month pregnant wife Beste Kızılay. Kızılay shot his wife Beste Kızılay in the head with a gun in the house. The young woman, who was preparing to become a mother, was taken to Malatya Education and Research Hospital. Both Beste Kızılay and her baby in her womb could not be saved despite being treated in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Alican Kızılay, who was detained in front of the hospital, was arrested.

In the first hearing, detained defendant Alican Kızılay and the other defendants D.K., N.K., and siblings A.K. and F.K. appeared before the judge for the first time, while Beste Kızılay's father Ahmet Fuat Özhan, mother Gülay Özhan, and sister Buse Özhan, along with the parties' lawyers and witnesses, attended the hearing.

'OUR CHILD WAS DUE IN 10 DAYS'

Alican Kızılay said, "On the day of the incident, I went to the village with my cousin. While returning, I bought what my wife Beste wanted and came home. I went out to the balcony and sat at the table. My wife Beste was sitting across from me. I wanted to clean my gun, which I had fired twice in the village. I was not drunk. After removing the magazine, I pulled the trigger while the barrel was pointing up. The gun did not fire. Suddenly, it went off while I was lowering the gun. At that moment, I looked at my wife Beste, and her head had fallen to the side while sitting. I went into shock and called out to my mother and father inside to prepare the car. I had no argument with my wife before the incident. Our child was due in 10 days, and we always talked about it," he said.

"ALI MADE A DRESSING ON BESTE'S WOUND"

Alican Kızılay's father D.K. stated, "We normally lived in Istanbul. Shortly after, we came to Hekimhan at my son's request because my grandchild was about to be born. On the day of the incident, I was sitting inside watching television. Suddenly, I heard a sound like a stove lid falling, and then I heard screams. When I went to the balcony, my son Ali was crying out, holding my daughter-in-law Beste. I asked Ali, 'What happened, son?' When he didn't say anything, I saw blood on the marble. I thought, 'Maybe Beste fell and hit her head on the marble.' Meanwhile, 112 was called, and as they instructed, Ali made a dressing on Beste's wound. I didn't know she had been shot. I learned in the hospital that she had been shot. I saw a gun on the balcony where the incident occurred, but I thought it was a toy gun," he said.

'I DID NOT SEE A GUN AT THE SCENE'

Alican Kızılay's mother N.K. also stated that she did not see a gun at the scene and said, "At the time of the incident, I was lying inside and sleeping. Suddenly, I heard Alican's scream. When I went to the balcony, I saw Beste sitting on a chair, and I saw blood on the left side of her face. I froze. At that moment, I saw our downstairs neighbor, who is also our relative, B.E., calling 112. The paramedics instructed him on how to intervene. I did not see a gun at the scene. I learned about the shooting incident in the hospital in Malatya," she said.

SIBLING HID THE GUN AMONG THE BLANKETS

One of the siblings, A.K., stated in his defense that he hid the gun in a panic among the blankets. A.K. said, "I was playing a game next to my father inside. Suddenly, I heard a sound like a stove lid falling. My brother shouted. I did not see my sister-in-law at that moment. I quickly informed my uncle to help. Later, I saw blood on the marble and my sister-in-law's head. I did not come to the hospital in Malatya. After the paramedics took my sister-in-law on a stretcher, I saw a gun on the ground. In a panic, I hid the gun among the blankets in the room used as a young person's room," he said.

HE LEARNED HIS DAUGHTER WAS DEAD FROM THE DOCTOR

Beste Kızılay's father Ahmet Fuat Özhan expressed that they were told Beste had fallen and hit her head on the marble, saying, "I was at work during the night shift. I received a call telling me to 'go to the hospital.' While I was going from Hekimhan to Malatya, I was still unaware of the incident. While waiting at the hospital entrance, the doctor said, 'Your daughter has been shot with a firearm, and when she arrived here, part of her brain was outside.' We lost the baby first and then my daughter Beste. I am a complainant," he stated.

Beste's mother Gülay and sister Buse Özhan reiterated that they had previously witnessed fights between her sister and her brother-in-law.

The court board decided to continue Alican Kızılay's detention, to forcibly bring two witnesses to the next hearing, and to obtain the recording of the conversation made during the first report to the 112 Emergency Call Center, and adjourned the hearing.
