The earlobe line in the photo shared from Cem Yılmaz's hospital room after undergoing an angiography following his heart attack drew attention. Responding to claims that the line is a harbinger of a heart attack, Prof. Dr. Bingür Sönmez said, 'There is no such thing in any cardiology guideline.' Sönmez pointed to high blood pressure, bad cholesterol, diabetes, inactivity, sleep apnea, and family history as the main risk factors.

Comedian Cem Yılmaz, who suffered a heart attack recently and was hospitalized for an angiography, was discharged after his treatment. A detail in Yılmaz's thank-you post from his hospital room brought about a different debate.

It was claimed that the line seen on Cem Yılmaz's earlobe in the photo could be a sign of heart disease. Cardiovascular Surgeon Prof. Dr. Bingür Sönmez answered the trending question, "Is the line on the earlobe a harbinger of a heart attack?"

IS THE EARLOBE CREASE A HARBINGER OF A HEART ATTACK?

Prof. Dr. Bingür Sönmez stated that the line on the earlobe alone cannot be considered a sign of coronary heart disease.

Sönmez said, "There is no such thing in any cardiology guideline. Years ago, a scientist named Frank made such an observation. Now, if you look at the ear of any person over 60, you can see such a crease. This is not necessarily a sign of coronary heart disease."

HE LISTED THE REAL RISK FACTORS

Sönmez pointed out that the risk factors to be considered in heart diseases are different, drawing attention especially to high blood pressure, bad cholesterol, and diabetes.

Sönmez said, "High blood pressure is one of the most insidious signs and may not give any symptoms for years. Bad cholesterol, diabetes... Right now, half of the people with diabetes in our country do not know they are diabetic. Diabetes is something that accelerates cardiovascular diseases."

WHAT ARE THE HARBINGERS OF A HEART ATTACK?

Inactivity, sleep apnea, and a family history of heart attacks are also shown among the factors to be considered for coronary heart disease.

Prof. Dr. Bingür Sönmez also stated that a computed tomography angiography should be performed after the age of 50, saying, "Because this is an indicator of the coming 5 years."

According to Sönmez's evaluation regarding the earlobe crease debate that started with Cem Yılmaz's photo, this crease alone is not an indicator of heart disease. The expert drew attention to risk factors such as high blood pressure, bad cholesterol, diabetes, inactivity, sleep apnea, and family history for cardiovascular diseases.
