In the process conducted regarding the suspicious death of Arif Ahmet Denizolgun, the leader of the Süleymancılar, doctor Nurettin Demirkol, who was arrested on the charge of "false testimony," appeared before the judge. In his defense, Demirkol said regarding the day of the incident, "I did not see people such as Alihan Kuriş coming to the house." The court sentenced Demirkol to 2 years and 6 months in prison, but taking into account the defendant's age, postponed the sentence and ruled for his release. The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected to this decision.
Doctor Nurettin Demirkol, who was arrested on the charge of 'false testimony' in relation to the death of former Minister of Transport Arif Ahmet Denizolgun, made striking statements in court regarding the day of the incident. Doctor Nurettin Demirkol, who also named Alihan Kuriş, who was arrested for establishing a criminal organization for profit, used the following statements: 'It is claimed that I gave a BAZ from Galatasaray Island one day before the date of the incident, but I was eating at a private restaurant in the Kuleli area. I did not see people such as Alihan Kuriş coming to the house. After the death, many people came to the house; the street was full, and there were police officers as well.'
Detained Alihan Kuriş The court, announcing its decision, ruled that the defendant Demirkol be punished with '2 years and 6 months imprisonment.' While the court decided to release him citing the defendant's age, the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected to this decision.
'IT IS NOT EVEN POSSIBLE FOR ME TO REMEMBER A PATIENT I TREATED A WEEK AGO' Doctor Nurettin Demirkol, who was arrested in connection with the suspicious death of former Minister of Transport Arif Ahmet Denizolgun at Beykoz Farm on September 7, 2016, appeared before a judge for the first time on the charge of 'false testimony.' At the hearing held at the Bakırköy 6th Criminal Court of First Instance, detained defendant Demirkol and the parties' lawyers were present.
In his defense at the hearing, defendant Nurettin Demirkol stated that 10 years had passed since the incident and that it was not possible for him to remember the process, and said: 'Fictions have been added to the incident that happened 10 years ago. I am a doctor; it is not even possible for me to remember a patient I hospitalized and treated a week ago. I need computer records to remember patients. During my statement, my hand was trembling; the prosecutor asked me why, and the answer was not recorded in the minutes. Afterwards, he called some places and took a photo of my statement minutes. It is claimed that I myself called the hotline. In my statement to the prosecutor's office, I had said, "I do not remember who called the police or at what time," but it was recorded in the minutes as "I do not know." In my statement, I said that I called the police 3-4 times, and that the police also called me. When the prosecutor's office asked me for the number I called, I said I did not remember. Arif Ahmet Denizolgun had a blood pressure problem. In order not to be misunderstood on the phone, I introduced myself as a "private doctor." There was a misunderstanding there. The reason I introduced myself that way was to indicate that I was not a public official doctor.'
Doctor Nurettin Demirkol '10 YEARS HAVE PASSED; I DO NOT REMEMBER THE ALLEGED CRIMES' In the continuation of his defense, defendant Demirkol stated that when making the report he did not say suspicious death but sudden death, and spoke as follows: 'I called 155 and said, "I have a patient, he died suddenly. The prosecutor needs to see him." They directed me to 156. In both conversations, the voices are mine. When making the report, I did not say "suspicious." I said "unexpected sudden death." Because I could not consider the death suspicious, I wanted to call the government physician, but I could not reach anyone, so I called the police.'
Defendant Demirkol, who also made a defense regarding the blood seen on the face of the deceased Denizolgun, said: 'In the statement I gave in 2016, I had stated that there was blood fluid at the corner of his mouth and that he had wet the bed. In my witness statement given in 2026, when they asked me whether there was blood on the face or body, I said that I did not see any, and that "I may have considered the dark-colored fluid coming from the corner of the mouth as blood, but I do not remember." It is said that I was not at home on September 7, 2016, but it is established that there are BAZ records of mine from the house for 48 hours. Ten years have passed; I do not remember the alleged crimes. It is claimed that I gave a BAZ from Galatasaray Island one day before the date of the incident, but I was eating at a private restaurant in the Kuleli area. I did not see people such as Alihan Kuriş coming to the house. After the death, many people came to the house; the street was full, and there were police officers as well.'
Former Minister of Transport Arif Ahmet Denizolgun 'SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO CAME TO THE HOUSE ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT ARE THE DECEASED'S NEPHEWS' Defendant Demirkol, who stated in his defense regarding the day of the incident that many police officers came to the house, spoke as follows: 'On the day of the incident, I experienced a distressing process. I remember the police saying, "Because so many people are coming, we are no longer letting anyone in." When I went, I remember that Murat Bayrak and foreign nationals greeted me. Some of the people who came to the house on the day of the incident are the deceased's nephews. This situation is established in the BAZ records. The morning of September 8, 2016 was a blurry period for me. I also served my state during the COVID period. We doctors are subject to secret inspections. I successfully passed these inspections as well. Even though the other witness statements are also contradictory, I do not accept that a crime is being attributed to me. I am ashamed to be here in this way. Because of my arrest, I have been in a difficult situation personally and in my family life; I have no intention of misleading the judicial authorities. I do not accept the accusations, and I demand my acquittal.'
THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE OBJECTED TO THE COURT'S RELEASE DECISION The court, announcing its decision, ruled that defendant Nurettin Demirkol be punished with 2 years and 6 months imprisonment for the crime of 'false testimony.' The court, citing the defendant's age, postponed his sentence and decided to release him. Subsequently, the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected to this decision.
