After the 12-hour surgery of Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who suffered a rupture of the aorta, doctors made a statement. Prof. Dr. Çiftçi said, "He is still in critical condition. We believe we can manage it in the intensive care unit." Prof. Dr. Sağbaş added, "There was also a tear at the mouth of the coronary artery. This was likely one of the reasons why Mr. Sırrı collapsed when the emergency services arrived."
The Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a member of the DEM Party and the İmralı delegation, was hospitalized last night due to a heart condition. Önder was brought to a private hospital in Çağlayan, Istanbul, where he underwent surgery at 23:30 due to a rupture of the aorta. Önder's surgery, which lasted approximately 12 hours, was completed early this morning. His condition remains critical, and he has been moved to intensive care.
HE IS STILL IN CRITICAL CONDITION
Prof. Dr. Çavlan Çiftçi, Chief Physician of Florence Nightingale Hospital, made a statement about Sırrı Süreyya Önder's condition at 12:00.
Prof. Dr. Çiftçi stated:
"This is one of the largest heart surgical operations. It is one of the surgeries with the highest risk of death. He has been moved to the intensive care unit. He is still in critical condition. We believe we can manage in intensive care. At this moment, we are most curious about the neurological status. Because our patient's consciousness has been closed since he came to. We will provide a more concrete explanation during the day. The situation continues in the same way; it will take a few days. We will wait patiently and continue with the same dedication."
"HE COMPLAINED TO 112 AND COLLAPSED"
Heart and Vascular Surgeon Prof. Dr. Ertan Sağbaş, who performed the surgery, said, "Aortic dissection is one of the most advanced pathologies in heart and vascular surgery, but I want to add something. The dissection was in a state of returning. The right coronary artery, one of the vessels supplying the heart, was trapped inside the dissection. At the same time, there was also a tear at the mouth of the coronary artery. This was probably one of the reasons why Mr. Sırrı collapsed after complaining when 112 Emergency arrived. A heart attack was also added. We corrected all of them, but since the heart took a lot of hits, we let it rest a bit. We performed bleeding control. The surgery took about 12 hours with ECMO support," he said.
HE SUDDENLY BECAME ILL
Sırrı Süreyya Önder was taken to Florence Nightingale Hospital by ambulance due to a heart condition he experienced in Istanbul on Tuesday, April 15 (yesterday) at 23:00.
Önder, who suffered a complete rupture of the main aorta, was taken into surgery.
Prof. Dr. Çavlan Çiftçi, responsible for Medical Processes at Florence Nightingale Hospitals, announced that Önder's life-threatening condition continued.
Çiftçi stated, "The surgery started around 23:30. Our entire cardiology team is here. Unfortunately, the rupture of the largest vital artery coming out of the heart... It is a major surgery. The patient's life-threatening condition is still ongoing. The surgery will take 7-8 hours," he said.
HE WAS MOVED TO INTENSIVE CARE
Önder was moved to intensive care after the surgery. In the first statement from the hospital, it was stated that Önder was connected to a heart circulation support device.
HEART MASSAGE WAS PERFORMED FOR 10 MINUTES
In the hospital's statement, it was explained that Önder received 10 minutes of heart and lung massage in the emergency room, and a rupture in the aorta was detected.
"Subsequently, at 23:05, there was a rhythm disturbance, and pulse and circulation stopped," the statement said, adding, "Our patient was urgently taken to the operating room, and the operation started at 23:35."
BY-PASS WAS PERFORMED, AORTIC VALVE WAS REPLACED
The hospital's statement indicated that a by-pass procedure was performed on the right coronary artery in Önder's heart, and the aortic valve was replaced.
The statement continued:
"However, due to such a large dissection and its involvement with the right coronary artery supplying the heart, despite all the surgical processes being successful, the right side of the heart is not contracting well, while the left side is contracting well.
After the surgery, which lasted nearly 12 hours, our patient Mr. Önder was transferred to our intensive care unit with ECMO (heart circulation support device). His life-threatening condition still continues."
PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN RECEIVED INFORMATION
The hospitalization of Sırrı Süreyya Önder is also on the agenda of politicians.
Immediately after the incident, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had a phone conversation with Istanbul Governor Davut Gül. Erdoğan received information from Gül and officials about Önder's health status.
CHP leader Özgür Özel also published a get well soon message for Önder. Özel stated that they are closely following Sırrı Süreyya Önder's health condition, saying, "I wish him a speedy recovery, a return to his duties, and to continue advocating for peace for everyone."
Among those who received information from Gül were the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli.
BAHÇELİ CALLED BAKIRHAN
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli also called DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan to convey his get well soon wishes. Bahçeli also received information from hospital officials about the latest situation.
İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu also conveyed his get well soon wishes to Önder. Dervişoğlu stated, "It doesn't matter whether our worldviews are different; we can think different things. This does not prevent us from fulfilling our responsibilities as humans. Once again, I wish him a speedy recovery and good health."
DEMİRTAŞ: MR. SIRRI FAINTED DURING HIS LAST VISIT
Selahattin Demirtaş, who is imprisoned in Edirne Prison, also made a statement following Önder's heart attack.
In a letter he wrote, Demirtaş revealed that Önder suddenly fainted during his last prison visit.
"We were on a prison visit. Mr. Sırrı suddenly fainted, his color drained, and he held his heart," Demirtaş said, adding, "We panicked, some tried to call an ambulance, but he did not allow it. He went out to the corridor to get some air."
Recalling that Önder said after the visit that day, "We are walking for peace with our hearts in our hands," Demirtaş stated, "It was really like that. Everyone, Kurdish or Turkish, should know that this big-hearted child of the Turkish people worked hard for peace beyond what is known, gave a lot of effort, never acted ugly, and never thought cheaply."
