A new regulation has been implemented regarding meal cards, and a limit has been set for their use in supermarkets. Accordingly, a monthly limit of 3,476 TL has been established for supermarket purchases made with meal cards. Purchases exceeding this limit cannot be paid for using meal cards.

Faruk Güzeldere, Chairman of the Board of Istanbul PERDER, stated in an interview with Milliyet, "There has been a regulation regarding the use of a certain portion of meal cards for supermarket shopping. When the employer gives the card to the employee, the main purpose of these cards is to be used in the on-site consumption sector. However, there is significant usage in supermarkets. This started especially with the pandemic and continues. A limit has been set for their use in supermarkets."



3,500 LIRA CAN BE USED IN A MONTH



Güzeldere stated that there is a daily supermarket limit of 158 lira for meal cards, saying, "So, when we multiply 158 TL by 22 working days, it amounts to 3,476 TL. This amount can only be used in supermarkets in a month."



"CASH PAYMENT CAN BE MADE"



Güzeldere expressed that the meal fee has been increased to 264 lira in the law, stating that citizens are gradually using the meal vouchers in supermarkets. He noted that the employer can also make cash payments to the employee if desired, saying, "The employer can benefit from the same tax advantages for cash support as they do for meal vouchers and meal cards. This is an alternative for the consumer."
