DISCHARGED LAST NIGHT Famous comedian Cem Yılmaz suffered a heart attack 3 days ago at his summer house in Paşaköy village of Ayvacık district. After his initial intervention at Ayvacık State Hospital, Cem Yılmaz was referred to ÇOMÜ Hospital and underwent angiography there. Prof. Dr. Ercan Akşit, Faculty Member of the Department of Cardiology, performed a balloon and stent procedure on Cem Yılmaz through his wrist in approximately 40 minutes. Cem Yılmaz, whose health condition was good after the operation, was discharged last night at around 19:30 after completing his 2-day follow-up period.
THEY SAVED HIS LIFE WITH A RAPID DIAGNOSIS The famous comedian was saved by the interventions of Ayvacık State Hospital Emergency Service General Practitioners Dr. Erdoğan Karataş and Dr. Edanur Canpolat. Cem Yılmaz, who came to the Ayvacık State Hospital Emergency Service on his own with severe chest pain, was diagnosed with a heart attack after the ECG was taken. After blood thinner medication and intervention within approximately 20 minutes, Cem Yılmaz was referred to ÇOMÜ Hospital by ambulance. Thanks to the rapid diagnosis and immediate intervention of the Ayvacık State Hospital Emergency Service team, Cem Yılmaz's life was saved, while the dedicated intervention of Ayvacık State Hospital Emergency Service General Practitioners Dr. Erdoğan Karataş and Dr. Edanur Canpolat and the medical staff on duty received great appreciation.
"HE SHOWED ME HIS ECG" Emergency Service General Practitioner Dr. Edanur Canpolat, commenting on the matter, said, "Mr. Cem applied to us on foot with severe chest pain. First, my doctor colleague Erdoğan Karataş saw his ECG and showed it to me. His ECG was consistent with a heart attack. We quickly went to Mr. Cem and performed his initial examination. After the examination, I called ÇOMÜ through 112 to discuss his referral. Then we started his blood thinners. We then quickly planned his referral by ambulance."
"WHEN THEY SHOWED ME, IT WAS DIRECTLY..." Emergency Service General Practitioner Dr. Erdoğan Karataş said, "On August 29, Cem Yılmaz came to us with severe chest pain. Our colleagues quickly took Mr. Cem's ECG and checked his vital functions. When they showed me his ECG, I understood that this was directly a heart attack. I quickly went inside and put Mr. Cem on cardiac monitoring. So, since he was a patient we needed to monitor cardiac-wise, I put him on cardiac monitoring. Without waiting for the blood results, while my other doctor colleague was handling the referral transport procedures, I stayed by Mr. Cem's side, following both his medical treatment and cardiac monitoring. He stayed at our hospital for about 15-20 minutes. After that, we started his referral to ÇOMÜ Hospital and he was referred. A very successful angiography was performed there."
"MINUTES ARE IMPORTANT IN A HEART ATTACK" Provincial Ambulance Service Chief Physician Dr. Sertaç Giresunlu also said in his statement, "As Çanakkale Provincial Health Directorate, I first extend my best wishes to Mr. Cem Yılmaz. I wish him and his loved ones well and hope he continues his life healthily. The process Mr. Cem experienced once again showed how important early admission, time, and inter-institutional coordination are in emergency health services.
"THE AMBULANCE MOVED 44 SECONDS AFTER THE CALL" Our patient was evaluated at Ayvacık State Hospital due to chest pain; after the initial evaluations, acute myocardial infarction, i.e., heart attack, was considered and the need for an advanced center was determined. Upon this, the coordination between our 112 Command Control Center, our ambulance team, and our relevant health institutions was rapidly initiated. Here, there is a very important data showing the reaction speed of our Emergency Health Services. Only 25 seconds after the 112 call, the case is given to our ambulance team, and our ambulance moves only 44 seconds after the call.
"EMERGENCY HEALTH SERVICE IS NOT ONLY TRANSPORTING THE PATIENT FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER" After our patient was taken into the ambulance, he was transferred to ÇOMÜ Hospital under necessary medical supervision and monitoring. For our citizens, Çanakkale Emergency Health Services work with the same sensitivity and the same reaction approach. Because emergency health service is not only an ambulance transporting the patient from one point to another. It is a large organization working 24/7 between our field teams, our 112 Command Control Center, and our hospitals.
Especially in situations like heart attacks, strokes, and severe trauma where we race against time, our goal is to deliver the patient to the right health institution at the right time safely. Minutes are important in a heart attack; in Emergency Health Services, we manage those minutes starting from seconds. This incident experienced by Mr. Cem once again demonstrated the importance of early admission and rapid health organization. On this occasion, I thank all our Emergency Health Services workers working day and night in every corner of Çanakkale, on behalf of our ambulance team and Command Control Center on duty that night. I once again extend my best wishes to Cem Yılmaz and wish him healthy days."
