A 5-year-old child who was taken to the hospital in Bitlis with complaints of abdominal pain was found to have a needle that he swallowed 9 months ago stuck to the bladder wall. While the child's health condition is reported to be good after the surgery, doctors warned that sharp and pointed objects should be kept out of the reach of children.

A 5-year-old child in the Güroymak district of Bitlis accidentally swallowed a pin 9 months ago. The family of the 5-year-old child, who had not received results from the healthcare institutions they visited with complaints of swallowing foreign objects, last applied to Tatvan State Hospital 4 days ago.

PIN REMOVED FROM CHILD'S BLADDER

In the X-ray of the child, who complained of abdominal pain, a metal object was detected in the bladder wall. It was determined that the pin, which was about 3 centimeters long and had remained in the body for a long time, had adhered to the bladder wall. After informing the family, the child was operated on by Pediatric Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. Tahsin Onat Kamçı, and the swallowed pin was removed.

"HEALTH STATUS IS GOOD"

Kamçı stated that the 5-year-old patient had swallowed a foreign object 9 months ago, but the family could not distinguish whether it was a pin or a nail. He explained that during the patient's check-ups, they found that the swallowed object had not passed out of the body naturally, saying, "Upon this, we decided to operate. During the surgery, we saw that the object had adhered to the bladder wall. We removed the pin, which was about 3 centimeters long, through surgical operation. We kept the patient under observation for a few days. We discharged our patient, whose general health status is good."

"DO NOT LEAVE THESE OBJECTS IN PLACES ACCESSIBLE TO CHILDREN"

Noting that some objects can be expelled from the body naturally, Kamçı said, "Sharp and pointed objects are very dangerous. Such objects should not be left in places accessible to children."
