In a Shahed-type drone attack in the suburbs of Kiev, Svitlana Blatova and her partner Maksym lost their lives, while their four-year-old daughter survived the attack that left their home in flames. Eyewitnesses reported, "A child was screaming 'Mom, mom, mom!' Her mother was not responding. The upper floor was on fire."
In the suburbs of Kiev, an attack carried out by Russia using an Iranian-made Shahed-type drone destroyed a family; a four-year-old girl lost everything in just a few minutes. This dramatic event has been recorded as one of the latest examples of drone attacks targeting civilians in Ukraine.
"HER MOTHER WASN'T RESPONDING"
According to local authorities and witnesses, Svitlana Blatova and her partner Maksym, who were at home at the time of the attack, lost their lives. While the couple died instantly, their young daughter survived despite suffering severe trauma at the scene. A neighbor who witnessed the incident recounted the horror, saying, "The child was screaming, 'Mama, mama, mama.' But her mother wasn't responding. The upper floor was on fire."
ATTACKS CONTINUE
Shahed-type drones are frequently used, especially at night, around Kiev and often target residential areas. As a result of these attacks, many civilians, including children and families, have previously lost their lives or been injured; official reports document that a five-year-old child and his father were killed in a similar attack in March 2025. It was noted that only the mother survived with serious injuries.
Ukrainian authorities and international observers warn that such drone attacks target civilian settlements. The Ukrainian State Emergency Services and local governments continue their efforts to strengthen civil defense systems, emphasizing that the protection of children is a priority.
