An intoxicated driver who fled after ignoring police's 'stop' warning in Kayseri was caught following a pursuit by the teams. The impounded vehicle, a driver's license confiscation penalty extended until 2037, and a hefty fine of 602,000 TL left the bewildered driver defending himself with the words, 'I wasn't aware you were chasing me.'
In the Melikgazi district of Kayseri, a drunk driver who fled after ignoring the police's "stop" command was caught following a short chase. The driver was fined a total of 602,000 TL in administrative penalties, and his driver's license was confiscated until 2037.
1.63 PROMIL ALCOHOL DETECTED
The incident occurred at a checkpoint on Mehmet Özhaseki Boulevard in Hunat Neighborhood. Police officers conducting the operation issued a "stop" command to the light commercial vehicle with license plate 06 BPZ 876, driven by B.C. The driver attempted to flee by ignoring the command but was caught after a brief chase.
During an inspection by the Traffic Supervision Branch teams called to the scene, B.C. was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.63 promil.
DRIVER'S LICENSE CONFISCATED UNTIL 2037
Investigations revealed that the driver's license had previously been confiscated. B.C. was fined 602,000 TL under the relevant articles of the Traffic Law. While his driver's license was confiscated until 2037, the vehicle, which had no inspection or insurance, was impounded and towed to a parking lot.
DEFENSE: "I WAS UNAWARE I WAS BEING CHASED"
Despite repeated warnings from the teams, B.C. fled and defended himself by claiming he was unaware that the police were chasing him.
Since he was driving under the influence of alcohol above the legal limit, legal proceedings were initiated against the driver, and he was taken to the police station for his statement.
