Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the Free Passage System (SGS) has been put into operation at Akıncı Toll Booths and that work has begun to remove concrete islands and canopies. Stating that the number of stations converted has reached 35, Uraloğlu reported that 8 more stations, including Çeşme, Kaynaşlı, İskenderun and Mersin, will be transitioned to SGS by the end of the year, bringing the total number to 43.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced that the Free Passage System (FPS) has been activated at the Akinci Toll Booths in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara. Stating that efforts to remove the toll booth islands and canopies are ongoing, Uraloglu emphasized that they are progressing step by step toward the goal of uninterrupted and safe transportation on highways.
The Free Passage System (FPS) transformation initiative, launched on highways operated by the General Directorate of Highways (KGM), continues at full speed. Most recently, the new system was officially activated at the Akinci Toll Collection Station, one of the key points of the Ankara-Istanbul Highway.
CONCRETE ISLANDS AND CANOPIES ARE BEING REMOVED
With the activation of the system, teams have started work on site to eliminate physical barriers. Sharing details of the efforts, Minister Uraloglu stated: "We have activated the free passage system at the Akinci Toll Collection Station, and our work to remove the existing toll booth islands and canopies is ongoing. During the works, entry to and exit from the highway are being provided in a controlled manner."
NUMBER OF CONVERTED STATIONS REACHES 35 IN 2026
Stating that 106 toll collection stations under KGM are being gradually converted, Uraloglu noted that after Adapazari, Sultanbeyli, Gerede, and Kandira, Akinci has also taken its place among the critical points transitioning to FPS in 2026. Stating that they prioritize points with high traffic density, Minister Uraloglu reported that a total of 35 stations have been brought into the Free Passage System to date.
YEAR-END TARGET: 43 STATIONS
Emphasizing that the transformation on highways will continue without pause, Uraloglu announced their year-end targets with these words: "By the end of 2026, we will complete the transformation at the Cesme, Kaynasli, Iskenderun, Adana East, Adana West, Mersin, Eminlik, and Suruc toll collection stations. Thus, we will increase the number of toll collection stations with the Free Passage System under the operation of the General Directorate of Highways to 43."
TOLL QUEUES AND THE STOP-AND-GO ERA ENDS
Referring to the advantages the Free Passage System provides to drivers and the national economy, the Minister of Transport summarized the gains of the new regulation as follows:
- Uninterrupted Traffic: Vehicles pass at normal cruising speed without slowing down or having to change lanes.
- Automatic Collection: Tolls are automatically deducted from HGS accounts without the vehicle stopping.
- Environmental and Fuel Savings: With the end of stop-and-go, fuel consumption and carbon emissions decrease significantly.
- Maximum Driving Safety: Accident risks are minimized as the sudden lane-changing chaos and bottlenecks at toll booths are eliminated.
