In the Gördes district of Manisa, farmer Recep Şener recorded a rare stag beetle in his agricultural land with his mobile phone. Şener, who released this harmless creature, which is under threat of extinction, back into its natural habitat, called on farmers not to kill the insects.
In the Gördes district of Manisa, the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus), which is under protection due to being endangered and known as one of the world's strongest insect species, was sighted.
ENCOUNTERED STAG BEETLES WHILE HOEING
Recep Şener, a resident of Beğel neighborhood in Gördes district, encountered rare stag beetles while hoeing his agricultural land. Şener, who filmed these creatures, which are declining in number in Turkey and considered an important part of biodiversity, with his mobile phone, released them into their natural habitat without harming them.
Stag beetles, which contribute greatly to soil fertility by breaking down rotten wood and tree trunks in forest ecosystems, are known as a highly beneficial species for agricultural and forest areas.
These giant beetles, completely harmless to humans, also attract attention with their rare lifestyle and aesthetic appearance.

Recep Şener, highlighting the place of stag beetles in the ecosystem, made an important appeal to other farmers in the region. Şener said, "These beetles are completely harmless to humans. Since they are endangered creatures, I call on my fellow farmers: do not kill these kinds of beetles, leave them in their natural environment without harming them."
