Relatives of fallen privates and private veterans, who had been staging a sit-in at Ankara's Güvenpark to demand their rights, were removed from the park by police intervention on the 38th day of their protest. The group was taken to the Veterans' Care Home, and when those who wanted to make a statement in front of the Ministry of Interior were not allowed, chaos erupted.
Police teams intervened in the sit-in that had been ongoing for 38 days at Güvenpark by relatives of fallen privates and private veterans. The families of the fallen and veterans, removed from the protest area, were taken under police escort to the Veterans' Care Home.
THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE
The relatives of the fallen and veterans, who reacted strongly to the situation at the Veterans' Care Home, wanted to go in front of the Ministry of Interior and make a press statement to voice their demands. However, police teams taking precautions around the building did not allow the group to leave the care home.
A VETERAN ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
The veterans, who could not reach an agreement with police teams and were not allowed to go outside, continued their protest where they were by staging a lie-down protest. During the scuffle and tension, some veterans fell ill and fainted. As events escalated, one veteran climbed onto a nearby bridge in protest and attempted suicide. After lengthy efforts by citizens and other veterans in the area, the veteran was persuaded and brought down from the bridge to a safe area.
