In Bahcesehir, nurse Ebru Anik was attacked at the entrance of her home by her ex-boyfriend Mustafa M., against whom she had obtained a restraining order. Anik stated that she was forced into a relationship through threats and blackmail and asked authorities for help. Injured in the attack, Anik appealed to officials, saying, 'This man fears neither the law nor the restraining order. I don't want to die. Hear my voice before I die.'
Nurse Ebru Anik (26) in Bahcesehir was beaten at the entrance of her residential complex by her ex-boyfriend Mustafa M. (30), against whom she had obtained a restraining order. Anik, who called for help, said, "This man fears neither the law nor the restraining order. I don't want to die. I tried so hard to escape. I moved many times, I ran away many times. Every time he kept me with him by force through threats and blackmail. I don't know how to make my voice heard anymore. I want to be heard. I'm tearing myself apart, I'm struggling; nobody hears me. I want my state to protect me. Hear my voice before I die."
HE BROUGHT TERROR WHEN SHE WANTED TO LEAVE Ebru Anik, a nurse living in Bahcesehir, claimed that during the last 1.5 years of her 3-year relationship with Mustafa M., which began in December 2023, she was subjected to violence and was forced to continue the relationship with threats and blackmail when she wanted to leave. Anik, who had to withdraw her complaint out of fear after her family was also threatened, was beaten about a month ago and her nose was broken. Anik filed another complaint and obtained a restraining order against Mustafa M.
SHE APPEALED TO THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE: THIS PERSON FEARS NEITHER THE STATE NOR THE LAW Anik was attacked by Mustafa M., who arrived at the entrance of her residential complex around 06:30 on August 27. She was beaten in front of the security guards. Anik said, "I am calling out from here to the Istanbul Police Department and the Ministry of Justice: Please protect me. This person, as you can see, is not afraid of anyone. Neither the state, nor the police, nor rights, nor law, nor decisions. Not even a restraining order can stop this man; he still threatens me, walks around freely, gives statements, and walks out."
"HE THREATENS TO KILL MY FAMILY" Ebru Anik said, "We have been together for about 3 years. I was constantly subjected to violence for the last 1.5 years. As I got to know him, or rather, I understood what kind of person he was, but by the time I understood, it was too late. I tried so hard to escape. I moved many times, I ran away many times. Every time he kept me with him by force through threats and blackmail. The threats escalated so much each time that they reached my family, and he threatens to kill my family. If I didn't withdraw my complaint, he would threaten to kill me, my family, and my brother, and because of that fear, I had to withdraw my complaint. But I felt so strongly that I would die that I finally went and got a restraining order. I found that courage a month ago. Despite this, he came to my door again 3 days ago, and I was beaten again. Nothing can stop this man."
HE SCARED HER BY SAYING "I HAVE CONTACTS AT THE POLICE" Anik said, "About 2-3 months ago, my nose was broken. Afterwards, I couldn't immediately go and file a complaint because he threatened me, but I secretly went and got a medical report of the assault. A month ago, I went and filed another complaint. He already threatens me every day. I have voice recordings, messages, everything in my possession. Despite the restraining order, he came to my door on August 27. He beat me in front of all the security guards and residents of the complex, in broad daylight, in front of people. At 06:30 in the morning, I was called by security and told I had a visitor. I asked who it was, and said I wasn't expecting any visitors. They said, 'You have a visitor; he won't leave, he's insistent.' I said, 'Don't send him up. Whoever it is, I'll come down and see.' After that, when I came down, I saw him, and since the police constantly ask me for evidence—I keep going to the police station and regularly filing complaints, but they ask for evidence. Even when I said my nose was broken, they say, 'Do you have a video while your nose was broken?' They ask me for evidence. So naturally, I saw him there. Despite the restraining order, he had come to my door and was shouting. I started recording video. As I was going towards him, I had already told the security inside to call the police. He has very long arms. He constantly said to me, 'I have contacts at the police, my power is very strong. You can't prove anything.' He said many things like that, he always says them. He even has messages saying these things. I have screenshots of all of them."
"HE CAN WALK IN AND OUT FREELY TO GIVE A STATEMENT" Anik said, "I was beaten right now in the complex where I live, and I cannot obtain these images. The complex won't give me the footage. They said, 'You can go to the prosecutor's office, get a petition from there, and obtain the images with police escort.' I can't even leave my house because I fear for my life. How can I go to the prosecutor's office? I was already beaten in my home, beaten right below my home, in front of all the security guards. This man fears nothing—neither the law, nor justice, nor the restraining order. If he does this to me in front of everyone, what would he do when he catches me where no one is around? I don't even want to think about it. I don't know how to make my voice heard anymore. I want to be heard. I'm tearing myself apart, I'm struggling; nobody hears me. I want my state to protect me. I have screenshots of everything; Mustafa called and said, 'I'm sitting with my friends from the police right now. I always walk out freely, nothing will happen to me, who can stop me?' He even wrote to me in a message, confirmed: 'So what if I go to prison? Let's say I did. Think about what I'll do to you after I get out, think about what I can do.' He is not afraid in any way. Worse, I really do go to the police station repeatedly, and clearly I have a problem since I'm going to the police to file complaints. Clearly there's a problem since this man, despite the restraining order, comes to my house without any fear and beats me there. There's a bigger problem since this man can still, as he says, walk in and out freely to give a statement. After leaving the police, he wrote to me again mockingly: 'Go ahead, file another complaint if you want.'"
HE SENT A MESSAGE SAYING "THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF ME IS TO KILL ME" Ebru Anik said, "I already constantly block him. He constantly sends messages from different numbers and different accounts, and I have all of them as evidence in my possession.He wrote this sentence himself: 'Your only way to get rid of me is to kill me while I am sleeping. You cannot get rid of me any other way, I will not give up,' he wrote. He tags the police under my social media posts. He is so sure that nothing will happen. I am calling out from here to the Istanbul Police Department and the Ministry of Justice: Please protect me from this. As you can see, this person is never afraid of anyone. Not of the state, not of the police, not of rights, not of law, not of decisions. Even a restraining order cannot stop this man; he still threatens me, walks outside, gives statements, and is released. He is aware; why should he be afraid? He is not afraid. Instead, I am still the one who is afraid," she said.
"I DON'T WANT TO DIE" Anik said, "Will justice be served only after I die? I don't want to die. I want them to hear my voice before I die. This man will kill me wherever he sees me. It is even in the messages he constantly sends me; he always says this: 'I will kill you wherever I see you.' There were people here, so he couldn't kill me; he beat me. Another time, if there are no people, he will kill me. I know it, I feel it. That is why I am struggling so much. I am trying to make my voice heard. Please, I want my state to take care of me. Istanbul Police Department, Ministry of Justice, please help me," she said.
