Harvest of the European Union geographical indication registered Bursa peach has begun in İnegöl. The Bursa peach, produced in an area of 6 thousand decares with a yield of 10 thousand tons and finding buyers at 25 TL per kilogram in the field, is offered for sale at 35 TL on market stalls.
Harvest has begun for Bursa peaches, which stand out with their flavor, aroma, and long shelf life, and are Türkiye's 24th product registered with a geographical indication by the EU. Although the yield of peaches grown in the Bursa Plain is high and product quality is good, the stagnation in the market and falling prices have put producers in a difficult situation.
FARMERS DEMAND "EXPORTS BE FACILITATED"
Farmers, stating that they had to sell their products at low prices despite increasing costs, called for the opening up of exports. Erhan Ulu, President of the İsaören Rural Development Cooperative, stating that the harvest of the Gülaven variety of peaches has begun in the İsaören neighborhood of İnegöl and that the harvest of the Crystalven variety will also begin, said the season started quite well in terms of yield, but prices disappointed producers.
HIGH YIELD BECAME A DISADVANTAGE FOR PRODUCERS
Ulu stated that the current ex-farm price for Gülaven variety peaches is between 20-25 TL, noting that the picking cost alone reaches approximately 5 TL per kilogram. Ulu, noting that when spraying, fertilization, pruning, and other production expenses are taken into account, the cost per kilogram exceeds 20 TL, said that this year, the high yield turned into a disadvantage rather than an advantage for producers.

Ulu, stating that the stagnation in the markets is seriously challenging producers, said that the decrease in purchase prices by fruit juice factories is also affecting the market. Ulu, reporting that prices, which were previously at 7 TL for fruit juice, dropped to 5 TL within a few days, noted that this decline was reflected in other prices as well. Stating that there are also difficulties in exports, Ulu asked that the way for exports be opened so that producers in the region can sell their products at better prices. Ulu expressed the problem by saying, "We are already thinking about how we will close the season with peaches we sell for 20-25 TL, and how we will pay off our fertilizer and pesticide debts."
DEMAND FOR A FRUIT JUICE FACTORY
İsmail Çıbukcu, the headman of the İsaören neighborhood, also said that fruit production yielded quite high this year. Çıbukcu, stating that prices were higher last year due to the low yield, said that this year, the abundance of the product and problems in exports have pulled prices down.
Çıbukcu, stating that having a fruit juice factory in the region could make a significant contribution to producers in terms of evaluating their products, expressed that a facility to be established with state support, especially in troubled seasons, could ease the burden on farmers.
