The second hearing regarding the extradition of Eylem Tok, the mother of 17-year-old Timur Cihantimur, who caused the death of Oğuz Murat Aci in Istanbul on March 1st by driving without a license, has been postponed. The hearing is scheduled to take place on July 1st at 19:00 GMT, and no information has been provided regarding the reason for the postponement. Eylem Tok will be represented by two different lawyers in the new hearing. CONTINUATION OF EYLEM TOK'S DETENTION HAS BEEN DECIDEDIn the first hearing held on June 18th at the John Joseph Moakley Courthouse in Boston, the Judge decided to continue the detention of Tok and scheduled the next hearing for June 27th. TIMUR CIHANTIMUR'S DETENTION CONTINUESIn the hearings held on June 18th and 21st for Timur Cihantimur, who is being tried in the same case as his mother, the decision to continue his detention was made. Timur Cihantimur, who is also a US citizen, has not yet received a decision regarding his application for bail and trial without detention made by his lawyers. Timur Cihantimur's lawyers claimed in the documents they submitted to the court that the detention center where Timur Cihantimur is being held is more like a prison for children, that his medical needs and medication requirements are not being met, and that he is subjected to mistreatment. The date for Timur Cihantimur's next appearance before the judge is not yet known. WHAT HAPPENED?On March 1st, in Istanbul's Eyüpsultan district, at around 23:50, Oğuz Murat Aci lost his life and several people were injured when Timur Cihantimur collided with 3 ATV vehicles parked on the side of the road due to a malfunction while driving a luxury car. After the accident, the unlicensed driver Timur Cihantimur was first taken to Egypt and then to the US by his mother Eylem Tok. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which initiated an investigation into the incident, issued an arrest warrant for Eylem Tok on charges of "protecting the guilty" and for Timur Cihantimur on charges of "involuntary manslaughter and injury" after determining that they flew to Egypt from Istanbul by plane on March 2nd at around 03:50. Turkey requested the extradition of the mother and son from the US in May. Timur Cihantimur and Eylem Tok were arrested on June 14th in Boston during a police operation.
