A decision has been made in the investigation regarding the death of Fatma Girik due to Covid-19. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office ruled that there was "no grounds for prosecution" against the accompanying staff and hospital doctors. Expert reports indicated that there was no fault in the medical intervention.
One of the master names of Turkish cinema, Fatma Girik, passed away on January 24, 2022, due to multiple organ failure related to Covid-19. A decision was made regarding the investigation initiated by her family, who filed a complaint against the private hospital and the caregiver, claiming that there were shortcomings during the treatment process. The investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been completed.
In the decision dated February 18, 2025, it was concluded that there was "no ground for prosecution" against Fatma Ahu Turanlı, who was a caregiver at the hospital, and the attending physicians. The prosecutor's office referred to the opinions of the Ministry of Health's Professional Responsibility Board and specialists in infectious diseases and chest diseases in its decision. According to the news from Sabah, based on the expert reports, it was stated that considering Fatma Girik's age of 78, her existing health condition, and the clinical course of Covid-19, her death occurred as a natural process, and there was no negligence or fault in the medical interventions.
According to the information reflected in the investigation file, the first Covid-19 test conducted on Fatma Girik came back negative. However, the second test conducted on January 21, 2022, yielded a positive result. Girik was admitted to intensive care due to respiratory distress and organ failure symptoms, and despite all interventions, she passed away on January 24, 2022. In its decision, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that "medical care was provided, and the medical practices were complete and correct," ruling that there was no need to grant permission for an investigation against the relevant public officials under Law No. 4483.
