Neşe Özkan (27), who got married 8 years ago in Bursa, underwent a tummy tuck and breast reduction surgery on Wednesday, December 18, at Özel Bilge Hospital in Gaziosmanpaşa, Istanbul, upon the recommendation of a friend who mentioned that there would be a staff discount, along with her husband, police officer İskender Özkan.

Özkan passed away after a 5-hour surgery. While Özkan's relatives complained about the doctors, the young woman's husband, police officer İskender Özkan, made a statement on his social media account. Özkan stated, "First of all, Vita Estetik and Özel Bilge Hospital are responsible for my wife's death. We had the surgery at Özel Bilge Hospital. The doctor who performed the surgery and the anesthesiologist spoke with my wife. They asked about her condition. They inquired about her previous surgeries. They asked her the usual questions. My wife mentioned that she had heart valve surgery and a surgery to close a hole in her heart at the age of 17, and that her doctor had told her she was healed. She communicated this to the anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist stated that enough time had passed, and that would not be a problem for her. If a doctor tells us this, there is no higher authority I can trust. I was convinced. My wife was also convinced in the same way. However, when I reviewed the documents I received from the hospital, I realized that no tests related to her heart had been conducted. I know that while they took her blood or when she entered other rooms, an ultrasound was performed, and an X-ray was taken, but I do not know if an EKG was done. I believe this should have been done. When I had surgery on my nose, an EKG was performed, but despite my wife's heart condition, her EKG was not done. However, I can see that there was negligence that could lead to death. Because I know this surgery is not one that many people undergo easily and think of death at the end."

Opr. Dr. Murat Acar, who performed Neşe Özkan's surgery, and hospital owner Halil Gündoğdu spoke to Ekol TV. Acar defended himself by saying, "I have performed 30,000 surgeries in 26 years and have only lost 3 patients. That makes it 1 in 10,000." Hospital owner Halil Gündoğdu stated, "She may have taken too many weight loss pills."

Opr. Dr. Murat Acar stated in his remarks: "I have 26 years of experience and I perform 150-200 surgeries a day. Do you know how many planes crash in this country in 26 years? At least 2 planes crash. This surgery has as little risk as a plane crash."

Acar, who stated that he has been performing aesthetic surgeries for 26 years, also expressed that he completes surgeries that other doctors finish in 10 hours in 4-5 hours, and that he is experienced due to having performed nearly 30,000 surgeries.

Opr. Dr. Acar also commented on the interviews given by Neşe Özkan's husband, saying: "He filmed before burying his wife. He should not use me and innocent people to boost his social media accounts. We have filed the necessary lawsuits. I call out to those phenomena. You come to us for your aesthetic surgeries, right? You ask us to promote you. Why do you bury us when there is a death?"

HOSPITAL OWNER: ALL TESTS WERE DONE

Hospital owner Halil Gündoğdu also made striking statements. He said that Neşe Özkan applied to the hospital for breast lifting, tummy tuck, and liposuction surgeries, and added, "All necessary tests were done when she applied for surgery. A document was also provided to us stating that her heart was healthy and that even if she had a problem in the past, there was no longer such a problem."

"SHE MAY HAVE TAKEN TOO MANY WEIGHT LOSS PILLS"

The hospital owner stated that the surgeries cost around 150,000 TL and that Neşe Özkan made a bank transfer of 136,000 TL. Gündoğdu continued, "Our hospital wanted to send Ms. Neşe to the Forensic Medicine Institution. Her family opposed this. They came here with the police and took the body. It was taken by our hospital's ambulance. It would please us to find out the cause of death. I was told that it is most likely due to a fat embolism. It has also been determined by us that it is seen together with some weight loss pills. Perhaps these pills were taken and not mentioned to us."
