The Hasanağa Artichoke, which has received a geographical indication and is internationally renowned, has caught the attention of thieves in Bursa. The thieves disappeared after cutting hundreds of artichokes, which are sold for 50-60 lira each, in a field they entered overnight. The thieves, who harvested the artichokes that the field owner had planted a year ago in just one night, have infuriated the owner.
Mehmet Kazel, a 52-year-old farmer from Hasanağa Village in the Nilüfer district of Bursa, was shocked by the scene he encountered in his field while harvesting the artichokes he planted a year ago.
According to the claim, the suspect or suspects who came at night collected all the artichokes in the field and disappeared with the vehicles they filled. Kazel, who filed a complaint, expressed his outrage against the thieves, saying, "How will this labor pass through their throats?"
LOSS OF 60 THOUSAND LIRA
The farmer, a father of two, who suffered a loss of 60 thousand lira, said, "I have been growing artichokes here for 4-5 years. I came here this morning to harvest the products. I saw that the artichokes in the field were stolen. They probably came here at night and collected the artichokes in the field. I informed the police teams. They are also reviewing the security cameras. We work hard to earn this money; now how will this money pass through their throats? I leave them to God," he said.
SECURITY CAMERAS ARE BEING REVIEWED
Police teams, who acted upon the tip-off, began to review the security cameras during the time frame when the suspects arrived. While the investigation regarding the matter continues, farmer Kazel urged citizens to call the 112 teams if they suspect anything unusual in the markets.
