WHO IS MAHMUD AHMEDINEJAD?

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the sixth president of Iran and a member of the Expediency Discernment Council, was born in 1956 in the village of Aradan in the Garmsar district of Semnan province.

Ahmadinejad, who migrated to Tehran with his family when he was one year old, served as the first governor of Ardabil Province between 1993 and 1997. He held the position of Mayor of Tehran from 2003 to 2005.

Ahmadinejad was elected in the second round of the presidential elections held on June 24, 2005, and took office on August 3, 2005, serving two terms until 2013. Ahmadinejad's application to run for president for the third time in 2017 was not accepted for constitutional reasons.
