Following the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria, the first session of the People's Assembly was held under the presidency of President Ahmed Shara. During the session, while deputies took their oaths, Shara called for the opening of a new chapter.
The first People's Assembly session after the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria was held under the chairmanship of President Ahmed Al-Shara.
FIRST ASSEMBLY SESSION IN SYRIA AFTER ASSAD
The session, attended by the elected members of the Assembly and 70 members appointed by President Al-Shara, was held after a delay of about one week.
Al-Shara, Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, Interior Minister Anas Khattab, and Justice Minister Mazhar al-Wais also attended the session. During the ceremonial first session, deputies took their oaths. Many diplomatic representatives from foreign countries also attended the session as guests of honor.
With the appointment of 70 members by President Al-Shara's decree, the total number of assembly members increased from 140 to 210. The seat of the deceased Idlib deputy and the three seats allocated for the Suwayda province in the assembly remain vacant.
AL-SHARA'S CALL FOR A NEW PAGE
In his speech at the assembly, President Ahmed Al-Shara stated that Syria is "writing a new history that today expresses its civilization, values, and heritage," and called for "opening a new page together on the path to building a modern Syria."
Emphasizing that "everyone faces a great responsibility," Al-Shara stated that "the destruction left by years of tyranny, war, and devastation on people, cities, and the economy requires placing the interests of the homeland above everything else and working with a single team spirit."
Stating that "after the liberation of the homeland and the restoration of freedom, we have now entered the stage of consolidating the state and building its institutions on the principles of responsibility and merit," Al-Shara emphasized that the state would be one where honor is protected and will is respected.
Al-Shara stated that rebuilding the economy, improving service quality, preparing the investment environment, providing employment opportunities, and increasing production are a national responsibility jointly undertaken by all state institutions, especially the People's Assembly.
