In the Reyhanlı district of Hatay, 10-year-old Amir A., a Syrian national, was found injured with part of his body buried in the ground while he was being searched for as missing. He is currently receiving treatment in intensive care. Amir, who has overcome the life-threatening situation, has an uncle named Muhammet Eldavut, who was arrested in connection with the incident. In his statement, he denied the allegations and said, "He fell from a tree. I got scared and ran away; I didn't bury him."
Syrian Amir A., who lives with his family in the Kurtuluş neighborhood of Reyhanlı district, did not return from Mehmet Belkız Büyükvelioğlu Primary School, where he was studying, on December 5. His family, who could not get news from 3rd-grade student Amir A., went to the District Gendarmerie Command to file a missing person report. No results were obtained from the search efforts initiated by the gendarmerie, with support from non-governmental organizations.
EXHUMED FROM THE GROUND
Gendarmerie teams, who launched a wide-ranging investigation into the incident, examined security cameras in the area and determined that Amir had gone to Reyhanlı Dam Lake with his uncle Muhammet Eldavut. Eldavut claimed he had no news of his nephew. The teams intensified their efforts around Reyhanlı Dam Lake. Continuing their searches day and night, the teams found Amir A. yesterday at around 14:30, with part of his body buried in the ground, injured on his head, and unconscious with stones placed on him. The moments when Amir A., who was rescued injured from under the ground after the stones were removed, called out his uncle's name were recorded on a mobile phone. After the intervention at Reyhanlı State Hospital, Amir A. was transferred to Hatay Training and Research Hospital. Amir underwent surgery in intensive care.
UNCLE DENIED THE ALLEGATIONS IN HIS STATEMENT
Uncle Muhammet Eldavut was transferred to Reyhanlı Courthouse after his statement at the gendarmerie. Eldavut was arrested by the on-duty magistrate. Denying the allegations, the uncle stated, "I took the child from school, and we went to collect pistachios near Reyhanlı Dam Lake together. He climbed a tree here and fell from the tree. I ran away because I was scared. I did not bury him, I did not cover him, I do not know what happened."
HE SURVIVED A LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION
It was reported that Amir A., whose first request was water, has survived a life-threatening situation. The father, Muhammed A., who is waiting for good news from his son, who is being treated in intensive care, stated that he did not know why the uncle did this and wanted him to receive the heaviest punishment.
