The forest fire that started yesterday afternoon in Izmir and spread from Buca to Gaziemir has been brought under control. The teams, guided by UAV support and satellite images, prevented the flames from reaching residential areas. Minister Yumaklı stated that all fires nationwide have been brought under control and said, "We are on high alert in the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts due to extreme heat."
The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, announced that the fire, which threatened residential areas in İzmir, was brought under control on the second day.
The fire started yesterday around 13:00 in the Buca district and then spread to the Gaziemir district. The fire, which grew rapidly with the effect of the wind, was intervened by the Regional Directorate of Forestry teams, as well as the fire department and many civil society organizations. İzmir Governor Süleyman Elban stated in his social media post that 7 planes, 23 helicopters, 2 trailer trucks, 98 fire trucks, 19 water tankers, 1 tracked tractor, 21 tonnage tanker, 8 bulldozers, 13 TOMA vehicles, 69 Dolphin police teams, 26 traffic teams, 98 civilian teams, and 2172 personnel intervened in the fire from the very beginning.
FLAMES WERE ABOUT TO SPREAD TO RESIDENTIAL AREAS
During the night hours, as a precautionary measure, the residential areas were evacuated due to the fire threat, and thanks to the intense intervention of the teams, the flames were prevented from spreading to the residential areas. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, who made a statement about the current situation, used the expression "All fires, including Buca-Gaziemir, have been brought under control. We are on high alert on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts due to extreme heat."

Meanwhile, the ground teams, who reached the scene of the forest fires and carried out the initial intervention, made great efforts to bring the ongoing fire under control. In the coordination center of the fire, the teams were directed with the support of UAVs and satellite images. The operations at the coordination center were managed by the General Director of Forestry, Bekir Karacabey, and the Regional Director of İzmir Forestry, Mahmut Yılmaz.
