Former Arsenal player Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was arrested in September for drug trafficking from Thailand to England. Thomas, who is being held in custody, has confessed to his crime. A 14-year prison sentence is being sought for the former footballer.
Former Arsenal player Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, 34, was arrested on September 18, 2024, for drug trafficking. The arrest occurred after British border guards found drugs in Emmanuel Thomas's suitcase on a flight arriving from Bangkok to London Stansted Airport on September 2. The seized drugs were reported to have a value of £600,000.
HE CONFESSED TO HIS CRIME
According to a report by the BBC, Emmanuel-Thomas, who has been in prison for a long time, confessed to his crime. The report stated that the total weight of the drugs found in the English player's suitcase was 60 kilograms, and it was noted that the suitcase containing the banned substances arrived on a flight from Bangkok with a layover in Dubai. It was mentioned that the Englishman accepted all the charges against him and expressed remorse.
14 YEARS OF PRISON SENTENCE SOUGHT
It was noted that the case against the former Arsenal player is ongoing, and there is a strong expectation that the maximum penalty of 14 years in prison for smuggling drugs into England will be applied. Thomas, who played for Arsenal, Bristol City, Ipswich, and most recently for Greenock Morton in the Scottish League 2, had his contract terminated by the club following his arrest.
