It was claimed that Veysel Tiryaki, the Mayor of Altındağ, employed municipal workers at a villa construction site in Bolu and used vehicles belonging to the municipality. The workers alleged that they were not given extra pay and were pressured with threats of being fired if they did not comply. Following these explosive allegations, attention turned to Tiryaki.
The Mayor of Altındağ is once again in the spotlight due to the villa construction in Bolu. According to claims from workers employed by the municipality, they were taken from Ankara to Bolu to work on the mayor's private land.
"ONLY 5 BUCKETS OF CHICKEN WERE BROUGHT FOR 30 PEOPLE"
The workers claimed that when they objected to going to Bolu, they received a response from their superiors saying, "Your names have been given, if you don't go, you will lose your job." It was also alleged that no extra pay was given to the workers, and their meal needs were not met. One worker said, "Only 5 buckets of chicken were brought for 30 people."
MUNICIPALITY'S EQUIPMENT WAS USED
The workers also claimed that construction machinery, cleaning vehicles, and benches belonging to Altındağ Municipality were used in the area where the villa is located. They stated that even the asphalt work in the region was done with municipal equipment.
HE WAS IN THE SPOTLIGHT DUE TO A PUNCH CLAIM
Once serving as the Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Tiryaki was also in the news a few months ago due to the protest tent set up by workers in front of the municipal building. During his visit to the tent, he reportedly had an argument with the workers and allegedly punched a union representative.
A STATEMENT IS EXPECTED
As the allegations have caused a significant public outcry, all eyes are now on the expected statement from Veysel Tiryaki or Altındağ Municipality. Calls for an investigation into these allegations regarding the personal use of public resources are also rising.
Here are the statements of the workers who said they were taken to Bolu:
"THEY PROMISED 'LEAVE' FOR THE NEXT DAY, BUT DID NOT KEEP IT"
İnayet Akpınar: I was working in cleaning services, and I was getting on the garbage truck. When I arrived at the construction site that evening, another friend was written in my place. I told my supervisor, "You have written someone else in my place." He said, "Okay, wait a bit, I will send you somewhere else." The vehicles left at 8, and I was sent to the public works side just before 9. They told me, "There is a loaded truck, you will take this to Bolu." We went to Bolu with a transit vehicle. There, another vehicle met us. We entered the forest road from Bolu. We progressed on that road for 15-20 minutes. There was a stone wall there. Quite high, with iron bars on it. There was also a guard booth in the corner. I stopped to take a photo in the forest. There was an official there who tried to take my phone, saying, "It is forbidden to take photos here." They showed me a place, and I dumped the material there. They didn't even tell me what the material was until I dumped it. We dumped small paving stones and lock stones. They did not let me inside. I left for Ankara early in the morning. The supervisors said, "We will give you leave the next day." They did not give me the leave they promised that day either. We did not receive any extra pay.
"IF YOU DON'T COME, YOU WILL BE FIRED"
Hakkı Dönmezoğlu: While we were working during the day, the supervising supervisors came and said, "Get ready in the evening, we will leave early in the morning." When we asked where, they said, "We will go to Bolu, we will work at Mr. Veysel's farm." I objected a bit. I said, "What am I doing in Bolu?" They said, "Your names have been given, if you don't come, you will have problems. You will be fired." We were working with 16 people in the emergency team. The mayor ordered, "Let the emergency team go." We said, "We don't want to lose our jobs, there is nothing we can do." About 30 of us went there. We loaded garbage bags, rakes, shovels, and similar materials and set off. Water materials and hoses came with another vehicle. When we first went, it was like a path. When we went the second time, the asphalt had just been laid. There was a tractor standing on the campus. There was also a tanker behind it that was heating asphalt. When we entered there, nothing felt foreign to us. When we went there, everyone working was our friends. We turned left and saw the municipality's vehicles (truck, bobcat, excavator). There were also small ATV vehicles from Altınköy. They were there too. We asked, "What work will we do?" They told us, "Take the rakes in your hands, clean the pine cones and weeds." There were those doing infrastructure work, and those doing installations. We started working there. We took photos, and they got angry when we did. It got quite late. We were hungry too. The mayor's son went and brought 5 buckets of chicken for 30 people. We continued to work on an empty stomach. The work done by our team was collecting pine needles and pine cones. They attached a box to the ATV, and we loaded what we collected and dumped it near the houses below. We worked there like that until the evening.
"MUNICIPAL VEHICLES AND MATERIALS WERE ALSO SENT"
Murat Baloğlu: "When we went, they made us clean a lot of pine cones in the forest. There were broken branches, and we took them. I went to the area once with the emergency team. Later, I switched to the warehouse duty. The spraying team went to spray. The carpet washing team went to wash the carpets inside the house. Since I was in the warehouse, I saw that the garbage containers and vehicles like worker cars were being sent to the truck. There were benches from parks and gardens. Those benches were taken away."
